So they just sent out an e-mail asking for song submissions to be played over the next three games.

Might I recommend Howl by Gaslight Anthem.

Of course, knowing our trolly fan base, everyone will just suggest Rock & Roll Part 2 anyways.

Edit: Yeah, what SH posted above.  The letter on the page where you submit is exactly what they should have sent along before this whole hubbub started, really.

We all know they should have just done this in the first place.  At least they are making amends and trying instead of being stubborn.

And that's really how we should be looking at it.  Some organizations would take the "we're still plowing ahead, this will work" tact.  Regardless of what led us to this point, they are acknowledging their mistakes and trying to make things right.  And quickly.

I just hope fans don't waste their vote with R&R Part 2 submissions.  It's gone and it's never coming back.  At least the franchise is showing a willingness to work with its fanbase, belated or not.

I wouldn't doubt that given what this fanbase has become in the last 5-10 years.

We all said it happen once the kids of the 90's Devils got old enough to come to games, we'd have a larger, younger, more energetic fanbase. Unfortunately, a side effect of a younger fanbase is that it will be made up of young people, who find chants like 'you suck' and 'Rangers suck Flyers swallow' to be ingenious. I love that the energy is a lot higher these days, but when you have younger fans, you need to expect some sophomoric things to happen.

Looks like we also got the "official" reason why the goal song was changed.  We pretty much knew why but interesting to see it from the horses mouth

Total BULLSH!T

We lost Rock N Roll Part 2 because idiots wanted to yell "YOU SUCK!" during it...atrocious

I hope something else stupid gets chanted during whatever new song they pick

I bet fans will still bebdoing the you suck chant.. they cant control what people say in the building no matter how much they try.

I mean, 8 songs out of 10 will probably have some point or another, or at least a chant-friendly beat that people will be yelling "You suck!" to... And it will be funny, and ironic when they figure it out on a large coordinated scale haha..

This was my submission. Ideally, it'd be some kind of edited version that would start with the beginning intro and then after a few looped bars break into the outro at 2:31..

yeah but it seems to be a little too late. In the Devil groups I'm in a lot of them are submitting that song. :(

Honestly, I will take the mostly full, energetic crowds chanting "you suck" after goals are scored over the half empty, lifeless crowds that this team had for years.  To be totally honest, I didn't like the "you suck" chant when it first started and didn't participate for the first few years.  I thought it was sophomoric and a little crude (which it is). But it grew on me and I came to embrace it.  And there's no doubting that the crowd got behind the chant over the years where people of all ages were doing it after goals were scored.  I will go into the new song with an open mind, but I have a feeling that this is going to be another epic fail for this organization, which is nothing new for them.

Unfortunately, I get the feeling that we are in for some very small mid-week crowds this season based upon what I saw opening night, the utter lack of ticket deals thus far, and the plain fact that there is very little exciting about this team right now.

They really pissed a lot of people off with the way they went about handling the change on opening night after playing the old goal song throughout the pre-season.  They probably understood that there was going to be some sort of backlash, but I don't think anyone could have predicted it being this big.  It will be interesting to see if the booing and chants of "bring it back" persist after the "new" goal song is finally selected on November 2.  If it does, this team has a huge problem on their hands.  You can't have your fans booing after every goal the home team scores all season, can you?

The initial approach was clearly an epic fail, but now they're leaving the song choice up to us, so to blame the Devils for whatever happens now isn't really fair.

I'm hardly clean-mouthed myself...I don't curse in front of children or in select other situations, but I let the f-bombs and other goodies fly and fly a lot.  I am pretty hard to offend.  So on that level, I couldn't care less about the "you suck" thing (though I was never a participant in that part of it myself...I stopped at "Hey!").  But I am surprised that some people seem to think it's so important to keep "you suck" going, no matter what...almost like it's life-or-death somehow.

honestly i find it funny how some on here and others on facebook are getting so pissed bc they cant yell "you suck" anymore bc the song is changing.  Its a 30 second song they're changing, its not the end of the world.  Rangers and Islanders fans have no problem with not chanting "you suck" when they score. (yes i know the isles did it but they quickly changed the song and the chants stopped)

I think there's definitely a bit of a "You're not going to hold me down and tell me I can't say 'you suck' anymore maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" thing going on among some.

I didn't parttake, but for me it's just not that important to keep it going at all costs.  All you have to do is listen to the 2000 SCF highlights, and all you hear is "HEY!"  Seemed like everyone was having a great time back then.

Just scanning FB with posts about this news, a lot of people are flipping out over this.  However about 85-90% who are flipping out over it are in the 27 and under crowd, so this is definitely a generational thing.  Hell just reading in between the lines from the statement on the link I posted alluded to this as well.

Some are threating to even cancel their season tickets over this.  This is how much a chant of "you suck" means to these people.

Yet when the Devils have failed to hold a STH perk, the VIP pass to the equipment sale, for 2 years in a row which is part of the package they paid money for, the uproar was not nearly as big as this.  Says a lot about this fanbase and its priorities.

I'm submitting R&R Pt. 2 as my suggestion, and I hope it's the one with the most votes, they better show the results, cause I know they won't play it anyways. I think this was a dumb move by the organization, the song will make its way back eventually, no doubt..
