RUMOR Jagr interested in Devils

that or someone trolling these message boards!

honestly, why would jagr (or any free agent) have the need to come to Newark to "inspect the facilities" much less sign their deal. if you don't live here, why does it matter? he's well aware of the arena and the local area that is Newark doesn't matter at all. if he were to sign in NJ, he'd get a place in Hoboken or NYC. He's plenty familiar with the area having played for the Rangers for years.

i would imagine that his agent would converse with lou over the phone or, PERHAPS, come for a face to face visit. But it's not like Clowe or Ryder or Olesz were in NJ when they signed.

i wouldn't discount the idea that the holdup on brunner is that jagr is their 1st choice and need that domino to fall.

i'm conflicted on which i'd rather - 1/4 for jagr or 3/10 or 4/12 for Brunner? Truthfully, I'd like both as the Devils RW depth is dreadful without kovalchuk. the issue is that 2 forward signing push not only gionta out of the lineup and shifting carter or henrique to center (something i think they're not happy to do) but also possibly olesz (or the aforementioned carter).

if both are signed, you're looking at:

elias-zajac-jagr

clowe-loktionov-ryder

zubrus-henrique-brunner

carter-josefson-bernier

olesz/gionta

now don't get me wrong, i like that depth and if josefson struggles or injuries happen, the 13th/14th forwards are easy fill-ins. But this also means that barch is waived/traded and the Lou insists on at least one punching bag on the roster. furthermore, it means tedenby has to be waived and possibly (not likely) claimed for nothing.

lou has overloaded before (like last year) on defense but never really on offense like this (at least that i can remember). Unless he has a total change of heart about a goon's place (he'd be counting on carter/bernier) to do the scrapping and does a bit of an about face on olesz, i can't see this happening.

The reasons why this won't happen are both financial and ice time wise - Jagr and Brunner both want top 6 ice time.  So does Michael Ryder.  So both guys aren't going to sign with one team.

Plus the Devils only have $9.8M in cap room.  I know they'll lose two guys off capgeek's roster, call them $1.2M, so that's $11M for Jagr, Brunner, and Henrique.  That can fit, but it's a tight squeeze, and one I find very unlikely given the financial issues.

(Also hilariously nothing at all has yet come of that bid to buy the team)

Maybe connected, but Lou cancelled his appearance at the Meigray expo tomorrow due to last minute schedule conflicts.  Apparently Lou will be out of the metro area tomorrow.

He will not be in the metro division tomorrow!

But he might be in the Atlantic. Stay tuned.

Elias-Zajac-Ryder

Jagr-Loktionov/Henrique-Brunner

Clowe-Henrique/Loktionov-Zubrus

Carter-Gionta/Yayo-Bernier

Extras: Teddy, Olesz.

That's how you would fit each of Ryder, Jagr and Brunner on the top six. If Clowe is supposed to be our "Clarkson replacement" then he should have no problem playing on the third ine. We'd also one of the best bottom sixes in the NHL with that lineup...

This lineup would be awesome. 3 second lines and a third line as our 4th.

Elias Zajac Ryder

Brunner Lokitonov Jagr

Clowe Henrique Zubrus

Olesz Carter Bernier

Hopefully they can sign both, Brunner is a must in my opinion. Fairly young with some scoring touch.

Why is everyone guaranteeing Teddy some kind of healthy scratch spot on the NHL roster? He sucks, there's no reason a guy that's put in AHL time, namely Anderson can't beat him out. You know what you're getting from him, and I bet he'll be hungry after getting a taste of NHL action last year

Tedenby still has tools, he gets off to a 21 point in 40 game start, some stupid team will overpay for his raw skills.

I think that's ridiculous.  His price might increase from nothing to a 4th round pick.  Even dumb teams can look at stats, and dumb teams tend to think small player = bad.
