That's true too and even less likely have an ad blocker installed regardless of their browser.

And with star-ledger's trophy case of Pulitzer Prizes, they need to be protective.

Seriously, I understand, it is their content. Summarize and link. No big deal.

Doesn't matter, nj.com can still claim they got x amount of hits to the page. Also, I don't think all ads are blockable.

Yea, it's true.

Anyways, I don't see one ad on nj.com thanks to ABP. It's great. You can block virtually all that crap with it. Highly recommended (if you use firefox).

You can borrow mine but you'll have to blow it up.

Wow, I thought you had mentioned this earlier, when did we go back to posting full articles again?

Yeah, I seem to remember this coming up not that long ago, but it seems to have been easily forgotten.

They want me to delete all the prior postings as well. This wasn't a generic letter, they named specific infractions and consequences.

Well, at least they were specific. Usually nastygrams of this nature simply say "You're screwing us over. We're not going to tell you how you're screwing us over, but knock it off anyway. It's probably easier if you simply cease to exist."

doesnt need to be in caps, there just needs to be a permanent sticky saying how articles should be posted. Yea yea, spare me the "we should all know the rules" routine, clearly some people don't, people forget, and for newer people they might not catch on right away.

Indeed. Some rules are common sense, others need to physically exist in order to be noticed and obeyed.

First off, if I could indulge myself for just an instant, since I now know they are watching this site...STAR LEDGER YOU GUYS SUCK!!! I'm getting god damn tired of picking up your freebie papers that your a$$hole delivery boys leave in my yard and everybody in my neighborhood yards!!! Secondly you should be happy some of your stories are being distributed via the web for free. And lastly, take your paper AND STICK IT!! I mean that in a nice way of course, thank you.

You can't quote articles in forums that are free to the public anyways? Just curious what the reason for that is. Credit is given to the writers, papers, etc.. NJdevs.com isn't claiming it as their own. I don't see the issue.

There's a certain amount of "fair usage" that you can post on a board: It varies, but typically a few paragraphs is safe. After that, it gets into copyright infringement, according to the lawyers papers hire for such things.

As a newspaper editor, my first concern is that my paper's work is linked and properly credited when picked up by boards and blogs.

But my main concern? That people are READING that material, which is discouraged by legal shakedowns like this.

Does this rule apply to ALL articles, or just Star-Ledger ones? If I posted something, from say, the annoying Toronto Sun paper, would it have to be in the format stated at the beginning of the thread? Thanks for the clarification.

Your unconditional rejection of violence makes you smugly think of yourselves as noble, as enlightened, but in reality it is nothing less than abject moral capitulation to evil. Unconditional rejection of self-defense, because you think its a supposed surrender to violence, leaves you no resort but begging for mercy or offering appeasement.

Wow, a lot of people hating the Ledger about this when all they are doing is protecting their property. You'd do the same if you owned a newspaper.
