DevilsFans
Seriously, I know we are hot right now but I just popped into to read what they were talking about in their forums. 90% of the threads are how they are not going to win against us. That they just are happy to give the young team some playoff experience, and we are gonna clean up. We have gone into playoff series and all the tables were against us, but I have never seen such negativity here. I guess thats just all the boo shirt birds coming out already, god knows they have enough boo birds. Oh well Devs in
Devil Fan
I am a much confidence person toward the Devils right now. I think the last 11 games finally prove they are a hungry club who want to become the hunters who can capture the Cup. For the 9 game winning streak in January, I personally believe that was just a boost because Elias returns. They just got hot at the beginning and they get cold but fortunately we played against sub .500 teams like the Blues and the Hawks (5-3 and 4-3 shootout, we had a difficult time against them). Then, the team got another boost from Stevens' retirement and Daneyko's. However, winning 11 straight games is not an easy task. But they did it and the last game against Montreal can make us and the entire Devil nation believes that "We won't quit until the game ends!!!!!!!"] Prediction: Devils will win 4-1. The Rangers finally make the playoffs after missing the playoffs for a billion years . But the Devil and Ranger fan should know and be aware of is that the Devils have never beaten the Rangers in a playoff series. That should give the Ranger fan some hope and the Devil fan some concern and doubt. Hopefully, the Devils finally defeat the Rangers this time in the 1st round of the playoffs. PeteyNice
Geez, you know what I just realized. The Rangers are the only Eastern team we have not beaten in a playoff series. Anyway, I don't think past history has any basis on this year. The only Devils who played signifcantly on the 97 team were Marty and Pando. Elias only played 17 regular season games and Brylin missed the playoffs entirely. Also, we lost a whole bunch of goals in that series to the now defunct crease rule and that was also the series when that ape Messier high sticked Gilmour and put him out of the series and got away with it. This is a different time. I am optinistic. As for Ranger fans. How could they stay positive? They dropped 5 straight. They blew a 6.5 game lead with 9 games to play. A division title that was theirs for the taking slipped through their fingers. If I was a Rangers fan I would be pissed off too.
hattrick
1992 was a first round series. It doesn't matter what round. We Devil fans want a playoff series victory against the Rangers.
emptynet
The only thing that makes me nervous is history...the Devils have never beaten the Rangers in a playoff series...hopefully this is the year to get the monkey off their back. It's going to be (as always) a very intense emotional series.

Not only do most of them think they're going to win, they're bragging about how they're going to overtake the CAA. They actually have a thread going where they're talking about how many tickets they're buying, where they'll be sitting etc, and basically laughing at how easy it's been for them to get tickets. It's ridiculous.

A division title that was theirs for the taking slipped through their fingers. If I was a Rangers fan I would be pissed off too. The Rangers won the series in 97 because of Richter and Lemaire. The devils did not have enough guys back then who can score. Petey is right, they are not limping into the play-offs, not crawling, they are being rolled like a beached whale. For the Rangers to win, they need a few things: 1) Lundqvist, Lundqvist, Lundqvist 2) Sykora and Prucha need to step up their game 3) Stay out of the penalty box These three things happen and the Rangers win. If they don't, they lose. I guess you haven't taken a gander at the Ranger board over on Hockey's Future. Not only do most of them think they're going to win, they're bragging about how they're going to overtake the CAA. They actually have a thread going where they're talking about how many tickets they're buying, where they'll be sitting etc, and basically laughing at how easy it's been for them to get tickets. It's ridiculous. It was pretty easy. I went on ticketdisaster, and found seats for game 1. Then could have had for games 2, 5, and 7. Bought game 7 this morning. In 97, I had a hook-up at a ticketmaster outlet who watched the system and when they became available, he pulled them out for me. I think the uncertainty of the schedule had a lot to do with it. I could not go to any game this sunday (have class til about 3), bought game 1 thinking it was friday night. Saturday is fine, but if it was pushed back to sunday (I could see Bettman doing that if NBC wanted it) I would have been screwed.
expect_the_unexpected
You know, before last season the Flyers had never beaten us in the playoffs and they cleaned our clocks so let's end another unbeaten record.

It's ridiculous. I was just listening to 660 and they were talking about old times when it would be 50/50 Rangers/Devils Fans. They then went on to say how, they expect game 1 to be a little more than 20% Rags fans and as long as the devs start taking the series that number will continue to dwindle. They were saying Devs in
pattyelias
It'll prolly be around 14,000 Devil fans to 5,000 Rags fans. Just a guesstimate.

Jerrydevil
As for Ranger fans. How could they stay positive? They dropped 5 straight. They blew a 6.5 game lead with 9 games to play. A division title that was theirs for the taking slipped through their fingers. If I was a Rangers fan I would be pissed off too. That's the big question. Can the Rangers put their collapse behind them? I wonder if there's enough leadership in that room to pull it together. Here's one thing they can hang their hat on: They've played the Devs tough this year. That alone might be enough to give them confidence, along with playoff history between the two teams. Here's what the Devils need to do: Step on their throats. Don't let them up.
Elias 2662
Maybe it's because I started following the team in '98, but all I can say about the history thing is: who cares? Those were completelly different teams and that was all in the past. Hell you could turn it around and say that we are due a win against the Rangers. This whole thing is stupid if you ask me. Derek21
What can be expected? Our team has shown no indication they're ready for the big time. They finished not only with that awful losing streak but were poor against playoff teams with games being played a similar style. I agree with Matteau about what the Rangers must do to win. The question is can they put the last five out of their mind and remember that every game they played with the Devils were close? If they can, then maybe it becomes a long series. I am still very skeptical.
Devilsdude530
I would also like to point out that the Devils have won both Stanley Cups in the opening years of new network broadcast contracts. 1995 - Year 1 of NHL on FOX 2000 - Year 1 of NHL on ABC 2006 - Year 1 of NHL on NBC lol, the conspiracy theorist in me is proud of that one. devilsfan26
I can't believe Devils fans are actually buying into the "Devils have never beaten the Rangers in the playoffs" argument. How can you beat a team in the playoffs when they don't even make the playoffs? If we got a chance to play them in the playoffs since 97 we sure as hell could have beaten them. Would you be scared to play Atlanta in the first round? We've never beaten them either.
