Lou 20 Minute Q&A

The guys with two seasons left (Zubrus, Volchenkov, and Ruutu) are all probably tough sells.  You're likely getting a similarly unappealing contract in return.

Ryder has the "buy low, possibly solid reward guy" potential.  Some GMs might be interested in Sal as a third-pairing guy, until they see videotape of him.  They probably wish he was $1 million cheaper.

Not sure what appeal Brunner has to anyone.  He's already 28 and hasn't shown any improvement in his time in the NHL, and was a healthy scratch at times.  Another guy who might have more appeal at $1 million less.

I should have specified that I think all players are tradeable by the trade deadline next year. At that point they will have little time left on their contracts and possibly have a place on another team where they are needed,

Definitely true...a guy like Sal (if he's playing decently) becomes a low-cost, decent depth move at next season's deadline.  But if the Devils have all six of those players on the roster by next year's deadline, then the Devils are probably in similar position to where they were last season...probably right around the final playoff seed.  I think Lou would like to move some of those bodies earlier, especially to free up some cash.

to me for the owners its a matter of understanding... "ok, buying out those guys will cost us x amount of money... but it's an investissement for the future" cause really, those 2 guys are not giving us a better chance to win that much, they were in and out of the lineup with injuries at times and its like we didnt skip a beat with them. We struggled scoring all season, but having those guys playing 20+ minutes at time is somewhat assuming you're not gonna create much or good breakouts during those 20 minutes lol

i know we're a defensive team and i know i sound like offensive is everything and that its not everything. But you need to try a lot to score and you need special skills, you'll need a perfect play or guys or skills to score some goals. While wtv you do on defence you at least always have the goalie who can bail you out. (in most cases, unless the dman left a guy wide open on one side for an empty netter or wtv)

Salvador does not have an NTC. DeBoer would have no say over whether he gets traded, and probably wouldn't think it was the end of the world anyway.

Ok. Was unsure of the NTC issue. Either way he's still close to unmoveable. Volchenkov might have to be amnestied and we just suck up one more year of Salvador before the young guns come knocking.

Zids bring too much offence and creates so much that we can't let him go yet while we need production desperately. He's really not great defensively but at least he can make plays and get the puck out of the zone. A-Train and Sal can only slap it around the boards or off the glass. Only giving the puck to the other team most of the time. Needs to play steady

Fayne is a perfect top 4 for us IMO, he's still young and can produce once in awhile and can be real solid defensively. Needs to play steady

You're forgetting that we simply don't have the space for all of those players you want AND Volch/Sal.  Your post is unrealistic and entirely dependent on Lou getting rid of two players that are going to be hard to even trade.  You have stated before in previous posts that you don't have a lot of faith in Lou.  We as fans, as hardcore fans I should add, have to decide between Fayne and Zidlicky to bring back.  IMHO

i dont forget, all im pointing out is what the perfect scenario would be in a perfect world and what we really need. Not what i think will happen or wtv.

I also never said that i don't have a lot of faith in Lou.

Would you fault anyone for thinking that you don't, given your posts on Lou's shortcomings in the past year or so? I agree with most of what you wrote in this thread but it's hardly a leap of faith to think you lack faith in Lou.

No i wouldn't fault anyone thinking that cause it's a very fine line.

To be specific and i explained myself plenty of times, Lou is a genius and a mastermind when it comes to hockey and i would not have trade him for anyone in the last 20+ years. He made the Devils what they are today.

BUT, i honestly think his stubbornness his costing him at times and is absolutely unnecessary. I never expected him to be perfect and never make mistakes but when something is made out of stubbornness i absolutely cant stand it and i truly believe that he could have been even a greater GM if he would have been a little more open and not as anal about some stuff.

I was never behind the strict rules he had like no beards/no twitter or sh!t like that or closed to public practices or training camp and sh!t like that. It obviously didnt help to market the team at some extend and some secrecy surrounding the organization is also over the top and only make sense in his own mind.

Again, it's like if your gf never locks the doors on the car, you hate it and keep on telling her to lock the doors. Never got busted or stolen anything in 15 years or wtv so you don't really have a point to make or anything to say unless that "technically you really should do this cause it could be bad" and you get in arguments for years and she keeps on saying that nothing ever happened to to calm down.

So that one day that your car is stolen because the door was unlocked, well you're gonna snap and all those repressed frustrations are gonna explose and the "i told you so's" will be flying. Thats pretty much what happened with me when Lou (imo) sh!t the bed with Zach. lol

LL said he does negotiate during the season so that analogy only works if your gf was actually locking the door, but just didn't tell you about it.

Like lou Said... words are cheap. You clearly choose to believe Lou who's in a corner in a very bad spot right now possibly saying stuff to save his ass. And saying you think guys like Elias, Brodeur, Zach etc etc would just lie publicly to the media about being frustrated about Lou's way of not dealing during the season. Cause really they'd have to 1- go out of their way to pretend to be frustrated 2- make up a lie.... that doesnt add up at all. It's one thing to keep something secret like not talking about a trade or talks... its another level to pretend its pissing you off.

Again people will believe what they want to believe.

Yes, and you will believe what you want to believe, certainly.  Even though Lou just said 'I've started contract negotiations with people and you haven't known about it' and that ownership was partly responsible for why Parise was unsigned (something which I've said for 3 years), you continue to go on and on and on and on and on and on about this.
