thefiestygoat
We all knew that Graham Black's season was impressive considering his medical history but it turns out he's still been battling Grave's disease this year. http://www.leaderpost.com/sports/Swift+skater+paces+Broncos/7847834/story.html On Wednesday, he is to be admitted into the Pasqua Hospital, where surgery might be required to deal with Graves' Disease - an autoimmune disorder that leads to overactivity of the thyroid gland. The first (and hopefully only) step in Wednesday's treatment will involve the consumption of an iodine drink. Ideally, that will deal with the thyroid to the satisfaction of Black and the medical personnel. "There's a chance that they could have to cut it out, but it's not very high,'' the personable Black said after Saturday's game. "I shouldn't even have to miss a game. Hopefully I can get my strength back to normal quickly.'' If everything proceeds according to plan, Black will be able to sleep better at night while requiring less medication. "I'll be able to focus better, I'll be able to put on weight, and I'll be healthier all around,'' he said. Black is feeling considerably better than he did in September - a month in which he lost 30 pounds. "It was really bad,'' he said. "I'd go to sleep and wake up nine pounds lighter. "I'd be sweating and my body would get hot. All my calories were burning and my food was processing quickly.'' As a result, his weight diminished to 155 pounds. Since then, he has been gradually regaining weight and strength.

thefiestygoat
Is Gavrus even playing for Owen Sound? Seems pretty unbelievable that he has 0 points given how well he did last year. He is and judging from an Owen Sound forum I found it seems that he's been snakebitten offensively. Unfortunately, the OHL doesn't provide any TOI or shots data so its hard to tell how much he has been involved. Hopefully he turns it on soon. thefiestygoat
Any news on Merril ? I know he was injured, but since he came back it seems his points production is down. I have only seen parts of 2 Michigan games since Merrill's returned and I think a lot of it has to do with him still getting back into the swing of things and that Michigan has battled injuries and just hasn't played well as a team. They are really have a down year by their standards. The Michigan (Merrill) - Michigan St. game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network at 6:30 tomorrow night. I'll be DVR'ing it. SterioDesign
Reid Boucher scored two goals tonight in a 4-3 Sarnia loss to Ottawa. He now has 42 goals, 66 points and a +10 rating in 49 games. Geez that kid is a scoring machine.
nessus
Damn, I'm really starting to like what I see from some of these guys. Severson really seems to have turned up the offense lately. The same goes for Scarlett, although not quite as drastic. I'm really interested to see how Boucher handles the AHL if that's his next stop. I didn't realize he's 5'10 and over 190 lbs now. If I'm not mistaken, he's grown a lot. As always, thank you fiesty!
thefiestygoat
What Severson and Boucher have down this year, especially given that they are so young (Severson turns 19 in August and Boucher turns 20 in September) is really impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing Boucher in Albany next year. It's too bad Severson can't go to the AHL next year. Scarlett may not be on Severson's level but his production for a 6th round pick is encouraging. I look forward to him in Albany next year. I'm going to go box score hunting in a few minutes. Chuck the Duck
I don't really follow prospects that closely, and haven't seen him play outside of highlight videos, but you have to be extremely encouraged by the jump in his development from last year to this year, especially when taking into account that he is no longer playing with Galenchuk and is still putting up serious points. Really encouraged to see how great of a season he is having. Hopefully, he can continue his growth and it translates into success in the pros.
