Triumph
I get that Gelinas' defense needs some work, but our power play really needs help right now. Some PP numbers: Gelinas FF20: 22.9. Greene: 20.1 Zidlicky: 16.4. That's a difference of ~18 unblocked shots per 60 minutes between Gelinas and Zidlicky. Yet Zidlicky got more PP icetime. GF20: Gelinas 3,1 Greene 2,25 Zidlicky 1,97. Zidlicky: 161 minutes, 24 shots on goal. Greene: 133 minutes, 21 shots on goal. Gelinas: 94 minutes, 32 shots on goal. The Devils know this. They know it because they tried to use Gelinas as a PP specialist for a few games. But it wasn't doing anyone any favors - they aren't going to potentially mess up Gelinas's future by continuing to use him that way (or using him at ES when he's been bad there for the last 20+ games). Devilsfan118
Can anyone please tell me what they think the chances of Larsson re-signing with the team in the summer are? It seems his reward for playing well and getting injured is getting dumped into the AHL. Which must be really discouraging for him especially when the likes of Harrold get injured and then come straight back to the team and rookies like Merril are kept up ahead of him. I'd hate to see Larsson go but I'm not sure Lou rates him as he's spending more time in the AHL now than when he was a rookie. Yeah the Devils own Larsson for a while thankfully. He's not going anywhere soon, unless he holds-out for a better contract/trade ..but I don't think he's the kinda player who will do that. CarpathianForest
Trade Marty, Jags, Zids, Sal, Volch and Gio. Replace them with Kinkaid, Buoch, Gelinas, Larsson, Severson and JJ. Let the youth movement start this season.

It's been floated that he might go KHL/SHL after this season but I can't see it. KHL has zero appeal to young Swedes capable of playing in the NHL. His time in the AHL is probably mostly due to them wanting him there for the Olympic break. It wouldn't shock me to to either see a move to make room for him when they come back, or at the very least, him being swapped for Merrill. Nothing against Merrill, he's just the only guy who wouldn't have to pass waivers.

KHL has zero appeal to young Swedes capable of playing in the NHL. Tim Erixson has been jerked around more than Larsson, and he's still here. He has to have a real chip on his shoulder to leave the NHL. And even then, he'd probably ask Lou for a trade before he goes down that road, sort of like what Niedereitter was reported to have done. devilsrule33
Well some fans get their wish. Gelinas in and Volchenkov steps out. It's unfortunate that Anton was always going to be the odd man out whenthe coaching staff realized that him and Sal both couldn't hold 2 of the 6 spots. Salvador's spot was always going to be safe. I don't want Volchenkov out. Gelinas needs to be on this team since he makes the powerplay so much deadlier. Volchenkov is a better version of Salvador. IDC that Sal has the C. He should be sitting, not Volchenkov.

Canada played tremendous positional hockey on defense (on offense, less so, I felt). The way Canada played against the US reminded me of how NJ was playing up until the break - there was just nothing there for the US offensively. Clearly you're wrong, given that Jeremy ROenick would have told me via tv broadcast that canada was playing the trap if they were playing NJD style defense! devilsrule33
Exactly. It makes me wonder what DeBoer is smoking. He is high because he wants to show video of a perfect defensive system....really? It's just about changing it up a bit. I am sure he shows a ton of video of the Devils doing good things defensively too. The team that allows the least shots on goal a game in the league.

Geez guys.. it was just said in jest.. lighten up... You have to admit it is a whole lot easier to play prepositionally excellent defense when you swap Salvador and Volchenkov for a bunch of Canadian Stud Defenseman. Of course any training film can be helpful. It just seems to me DeBoer doesn't always get the what the Devils' biggest issue are nor is his view of certain players based in reality. "OK Bryce, watch what Weber did here... and then come up the ice, get in position and shoot the puck just like that."

Sneax
Why is broduer playing? Did we throw in the towel on the season? I see no reason why CS can't mentally and physically be ready to play every game left on our schedule.

Sneax
He's going to be our starting goalie next year, and playing 45+.
