vadvlfan
I would think that Lou has given "a lesser role" thought to running the Devils besides all out retirement. Some here feel the game has passed him by, others don't. Not that he wants to let go of the "reins" all together. I was wondering if he thought about giving the GM post to someone else, and staying on as president? I also think Lou thinks very highly of PDB, (regardless of outcome of this year) possibly offering him the post (tutoring him along the way) similar to Yzerman (under Red Wings) I always thought Marty to be brought on as asst. GM (like Messier) but, Marty talking of going to play elsewhere throws a wrench in that at least for now. Lou might be planning on doing this in the next few weeks. And shouldn't come as a shock if the scenario played out.
NJDevs4978
Pete as GM? Sweet jesus...I know there was talk about maybe Sutter being Lou's successor a few years back, but man how would you ever sell THIS one? It's also hard to imagine Lou backing someone that isn't blood-related for the post unless Chris just doesn't want it.
'7'
Brodeur anywhere in a management role is a catastrophe.
NJDevs4978
I somehow can't picture Marty being in management here 'this' fast after all that's gone on this season. There's gotta be some sort of 'we need a break from each other' period.
jerseysteve
Except that all indications are that Lou's role will remain the same or even grow. IMHO you really need to throw this season out, and get ready for next year. Knowing what we know now about how bad the Devs finances have been the last two years, I just don't see how people can be so down on this team. Now that our finances are straight, I look for Lou to make a couple of moves to bring in scoring, and work some draft magic. I just can't get so down on this team as some people. In fact, I think the reality is that we over achieved on many levels.
NewarkDevil5
I know this isn't at all Lou's MO, but I really kind of hope that his replacement is someone completely non-organizational. I don't want Marty for that role because whether or not Marty actually has the kind of mind for that kind of role, this last couple of years has proven to me that he's very much prone to believing his own BS and I don't want that kind of person in that kind of role. Even with all the BS that Lou has flung at us over the years, he's generally (arguably up until the last couple years) made moves to show that he knows what the real status is and what's quo and what shouldn't be. coldply123
I don't think the next GM is up to Lou to decide anyways now. But he will have input with the owners, who I think will be seeking a transition plan soon in the front office.
mfitz804
I've seen and heard nothing that would support the argument that Lou's role will change. Just a lot of people on Internet forums talking about it without any basis in fact, other than that he is old.
TheMazz
I heard Lou and Pete are going to re-make the movie "Sleepless in Seattle". They're going to meet eye to eye over a bowl of prunes and call it "Senile In Newark".
MantaRay
Lou's son and Conte will have first dibs on Lou's job IF he ever decides to go. Which I don't see happening anytime soon.

Daniel
Lou's son and Conte will have first dibs on Lou's job IF he ever decides to go. Which I don't see happening anytime soon. Definitely not Conte. I don't think he has any interest in being a GM, as he could have gotten that position with another team a long time ago if that's what he was looking for. And the new owners certainly don't owe Lou anything to give the position to Chris, who I think everyone around the league realizes isn't the sharpest knife in the drawere. As I've said, my darkhorse candidate to replace Lou is Pierre McGuire. I think he might actually do a decent job.
devils102
I had thought of PDB as a potential replacement as well because he does have experience as a GM from his time in the OHL where he won the Memorial Cup. Mike Foligno is another guy with experience managing at the OHL level. He's also been around the NHL for awhile in different capacities. He also wrote a poem about Pat Burns after he died : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg9y-MQ2FYY#t=18. Chico as GM would also be hilarious. Well Lou is part of the elephant (problem) in the room now and not just due to his age which has to come into consideration soon. He bears as much responsibility for the mess the last few years as the prior ownership does and the circumstances that could not be controlled taking the other third of the pie. Lou would not hint at it. But there's been rumblings he would not stay much beyond when Brodeur left. It's been speculated he might keep just a President level position for a couple years overseeing the hockey operations/management but get out of the GM/on ice/scouting area and work to ensure the next GM gets everything into place/smooth transition. Keep an eye on McPhee if he gets canned down in DC as he operates a bit like Lou and has connections to the area and the Devils in his past. My other guy I thought might be worth a look is the Director of Scouting/Asst out in SJ whose name I can't be remember.

NONONONONO...you get five nos on that one Pierre's not John Davidson, my friend who lives in Conneticut still gets unpleasant flashbacks to his time as a Keenan wannabe coach in Hartford, and a bad one at that. AEWHistory
Lou's son and Conte will have first dibs on Lou's job IF he ever decides to go. Which I don't see happening anytime soon. It's funny, when I suggested ChrisL as a possible successor a few years back folks tore me a new one (I'm still recovering from the stitches). Owell, I guess time changes all things.... Anyway, I don't think the next GM will be any people mentioned in this thread so far. I say we bring in Glen Sather with the Oilers FO staff to support him! The Cup will be ours for years.....
