‏Zach Parise has agreed to terms with the Minnesota Wild

You think this STH base/atmosphere is going to keep up if we don't keep winning? We're the worst franchise in the league right now for debt. Worse than even Phoenix.

What does pre-2006 Pens have to do with now? They are not going to fall apart any time soon. If they start sucking, that very well may happen, but does anyone expect the Pens not to be contending with or without Zach on their roster?

I am replying to your argument that if it comes down to quality of living, that Detroit and Pittsburgh are better than northern nj - which is silly. I am not looking at Forbes valuation of teams or debt because that wasn't my point

I'm sure carpetbagging our way into a state in between the Rangers, Islanders and Rangers 30 years ago wasn't the best decision.

I can't wait until this sh!t is over. I know a lot of us here aren't the most sane fans but holy fvck some of you are really losing your marbles today and nobody has even signed yet.

sh!t, I'm having fun and feeling better. At least there's other fans out there having the same feelings of unease and confusion. It's good to know I'm not alone.

The Dodgers, Cubs, Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars all went into bankruptcy and were awful "for debt." They're all doing pretty well right now financially.

Even the Stars, who are a very average team with even worse attendance then the Devils in an arena they don't own, apparently are doing well enough that they could make Parise some kind of offer.

Maybe a Czech line that doesn't need walkers.

Yeah, seriously, unless there's a 50 game season next year, Jagr isn't someone I would give anything, he was completely on fumes by the time we ran into the Flyers. Did he even do anything?

I'm of the opinion that Zach not being a Devil next season is a foregone conclusion, so I'm trying to look at the best players left on the market at a reasonable price that ensure we'll still at least be competitive. So, from what's left, I think Jagr makes the most sense both in talent and economics. Semin is still out there, but his work ethic is questionable and he's going to be at least a 6-7 million dollar cap hit.

In a perfect world, I'd like to move on from this what if ZP scenario onto something that is tangible and practical. When Zach is gone tomorrow, what does Lou do to replace him?

What are your suggestions? Tedenby nor any of the guys in the AHL club are going to come close to easing the loss. So who do we bring in?

You misread my point. I didnt say one word about northern NJ compared to the quality of living to Detroit and Pittsburgh. Northern NJ is a great place to live, but there's nothing wrong with the Detroit suburbs or Pittsburgh. The only thing I did was compare Newark to Pittsburgh to Detroit. Zach will not live in any of the downtown areas anyway. All three are comparable otherwise. The Pens pre-2006 is completely irrelevant to this discussion. They're not that franchise anymore and are likely not to be anytime soon. But we're currently a team in a financial crisis.

Someone who is less than a thousand years old? Semin is not the world's worst option and his name is mud so he might come in under market.

Doan also might be a target because supposedly he will not make a decision until next week at the earliest.

I bet in 7 seasons or so they'll be headed back down. Malkin is not going to be a Penguin forever. Eventually he's going to realize that he carries the team. Fleury is not an elite goaltender. The Pens are hitting their zenith right now. Their program isn't bulit on sustainability like the Wings or Devils.

Doan's decision depends on the outcome of the vote in Glendale protesting the sale of the team. Plus, I don't see there being a tremendous difference in Doan and Jagr. You sign either, you're going to be lacking those strengths in the other, whether it's the scoring touch of Jagr or the grit in Doan.

Although Semin's name is Mudd, we still have some stiff competition to sign him with teams like Detroit purportedly having an interest in him.

His name is mud in Canada with loons like Don Cherry and the xenophobes on TSN but I still think some desperate US team (there are twenty-three of them) will overpay for him once Zach goes off the board, and he knows it. Just like Carle is hoping to draft in behind Suter once he's off the board and become everyone's first choice.

You suggested Newark was inferior to Pittsburgh and Detroit in replying to a quality of life post. I wouldn't say I misread your post.

Newark IS a hole. I wasn't speaking to the region, because NNJ is a good place. The city alone, Newark is hardly a destination of any merit. Does anyone go to Newark outside of stuff at The Rock or the airport? I can think of quite a few reasons to go to Pittsburgh and Detroit as a city, but obviously every place have their crappy parts.

NJPAC? Ironbound? But I could say the same for Pittsburgh and Detroit. Though downtown Detroit has the casinos. But if you think Newark is worse than Detroit overall then lol.

Newark is a hole but have you ever even been to Detroit? There is literally nothing but the arenas and theatre there. Hockeytown resturant and Chelios chili place are some of the only few resturants right near there. Everything else is boarded up. I hate Detroit, there is no reason to go to that city unless it's for a sporting event.

Add to the fact that we're limited in what we can offer if we want to go trade with a team. What do we have to offer on that front? A first round pick? So we won't have sh!t to draft over the next two years coupled with the clairvoyants on TSN and NHL Network predicting will be a sh!t team for the foreseeable future. Oh, things look just fvcking dandy! What else do we have. We've got slim and old pickings in our starting lineup. Hey, who wnats Matthias Tedenby? He doesn't really bring any upside but you won't have to worry about some average sized d-man knocking the teeth out of his short ass since he's already missing some. We got Cam Janssen! Maybe a franchise is interested in starting an illegal bare knuckled boxing event in the basement of their arena. We got sh!t! Zach's gone! This is checkmate. Ahhh! I'm really starting to feel this franchise painted itself into a corner. Goodbye New Jersey, hello Quebec City! FVCK!

Yea, Detroit is a hole too, but at least they have the sports options, guess Newark has it too if you want to go up to NYC or down to Philly. Fox Theatre is awesome though and you can escape to Windsor if you look at as an escape lol.

Windsor is included now? Lol. Your arguments are all over the place. I'm not wasting my time on this nonsense anymore.

Can we please talk about something relevant and fvck all to geography! We're one day away from losing our Captain and you guys are arguing which sh!t city isn't as sh!tty as the other one! When Parise walks, what do we do?

Fair enough.

As for your question, it depends what our internal cap is. Its obvious we've made an offer to Zach, but its hard to guess if thats our entire internal cap or what. We can say go sign Semin, or trade for this guy or that, but its clear we have a limit on what we can do.

We can't do jack sh!t as far as trades are concerned. We have nothing to offer in picks or players. I'd be worried about Semin. And, if we do sign Semin, can we go with our current blueline without Bryce Salvador? I know you guys are going to say we have Larsson, but Larsson and Salvador are two different types of d-men. I guess we could bring up one of Bernier or Carter to third line status, but you kill any chemistry from that 4th line. We don't have Sykora for sure, either.

So:

Kovy-Zajac-?

Elias-Zubrus-Henrique

Josefson-Clarkson-?

Carter-Gionta-Bernier

Larsson-Tallinder

Fayne-Greene

Volchenkov-?

Urbom probably or a Scott Hannan/Brett Clark/Colacoiavovcovo type

I dont think we're going to sign Semin. I think someone like Hudler would be more in our wheelhouse.

I think you're underestimating our trade potential. It's tough off the roster, but if they wanted to do something, we do have prospects that could be moved, but we'd likely have to take on salary. Its just hard to guess right now with the $$$ uncertainty.

I see how it goes! This thread was all a buzz when people were chewing each other out when it came to which city sucks balls harder, but when it come down to the real sh!t, like "What does this team do with no Parise", y'all can't take your frustrations out on each other so you're all fvcking mum and sh!t!

Don't forget Zidlicky and Harrold as the 7th guy. This team is fine on defense, there is no spot for Salvador.

That can all change though if the Devils trade defense for forward help.
