So the Feds would have to handle to database and work out how the ID would be secured but the states would still handle at what age people can get licenses and the state would still do the physical issuing. Not all states have photos for example...mine doesn't and won't need it until it expires in a few years...who is footing the bill...I mean I know that the Feds can run a deficit and it is ok however let a state like NJ run a deficit and it is a crime...where is the money coming from? If the feds can't, or won't protect our borders, then vote them out. I am sick and tired of the feds wanting everyone else to do their job. What a joke- the Dept of "Homeland Security" shouldn't that really be the Defense Dept and the Defense dept should really be renamed the War Dept. like it was before the 1948 change. The States already spend a lot of money on IDs, the federal gov. is just saying you need certain security features on it. Granted a license fee is a small thing when compared to registration and all that, but hey, I might be in New York next semester, their license is like $50 or so... My son has been living in Chicago for basically 9 years and he finally got an Ill license. He couldn't bear to part with his legal connection to the Garden State. I like to show my Ocean County ID card when I fly. It drives the airport people crazy! Its printed on a pink card that really stands out. Besides, other than my passport, its the only photo ID I have. Rental car clerks have a hard time believing that the NJ driver license is for real. My other son, who lives in Seattle and is thirty years old, was refused beverage service in California. They didn't recognize his Washington State DL. When i used to work for stop and shop we would only accept NY licensees, any other state we had to have a manager come over and inspect it for like 5 min. i know its a small detail really but i cant find anything wrong with this or really great. although it will be sad not making fun of other states ID's anymore=(. i thought NY's was pretty cool, some look like they cut and pasted the pic on hehe Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They'll still make you transfer your address to the new one, and charge you the FEE. This may (and I say MAY) eliminate the need for a written test in some states when you move. I can see some states considering it a matter of states rights and hanging on to it. But I see no problem with the government saying these are the documents you have to have to get the license, here is what has to be on it, and here is what it has to look like. Anything the states have to add to their IDs to make them up to the national standard is probably something that should be there anyway. I believe the money would be better spent on other issues such as really knowing who is in this country illegally and kicking their butts out and fast...frig them getting licenses. I know for a fact that many illegals go to Pennsylvania and North Carolina for DMV issues because the rules are more lax than in NJ.
