Stafford would be a nice addition since Kovy is unknown and can provide more offense than D'Agostini, I've wanted him on the Devils for years now. Decent scoring insurance if Clarkson bails this offseason too.

Problem is that if the Devils retain Clarkson, he and Kovalchuk are the top two RWs, so Stafford doesn't make sense...unless Kovy goes back go LW.

Vanek would be a nasty addition but would take too much to acquire.

I'm really hoping the Devils do some major trades and shake up the team. Why on earth do they seem complacent after coming so close to all the glory last season? you would think in this shortened season it would drive them to win it all.

I realize that as long as they make the playoffs it's a whole new game, but still. Lou needs to shake up the team a bit and bring in some new major faces to revitalize the team and hopefully go all the way.

Thing is, if Lou really wants to reshape the team, blowing it up only makes sense if it's another Arnott-Nieuwy type deal. Those are tough to pull off.

I know he is a center, but Letestu is an UFA I belueve. Not sure they would move him anyway, but I always liked what I saw from him in Pitt.

He's good on faceoffs, too. Always a plus.

It's because it's a shortened season where there are changes on the horizon that everyone is weary of. Lou must be thinking to himself that it is more important to not royally screw things up this year than it is to do very well. Next year, once the amnesty buyouts roll out, Lou will try to make a splash in FA, that's my guess. Now I don't mean a splash like we're gonna get a star player, but we'll get at least 1 quality confidence low, talent high player to fit in our top 6.

i think we really need to get rid of one of our older dman or else we won't have much room on our cap for any moves... i made a quick roster on cap geek giving players we could resign very good and slightly overpaid deals for some cause you never know with Lou. and if they sign for less well good

FORWARDS
Ilya Kovalchuk ($6.667m) / Travis Zajac ($5.750m) / David Clarkson ($4.500m)
Patrik Elias ($6.000m) / Andrei Loktionov ($2.000m) / Dainius Zubrus ($3.400m)
Alexei Ponikarovsky ($1.800m) / Adam Henrique ($3.000m) / Matt D'Agostini ($1.800m)
Ryan Carter ($0.775m) / Jacob Josefson ($0.851m) / Steve Bernier ($0.775m)
Krystofer Barch ($0.750m) / Stephen Gionta ($0.563m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Anton Volchenkov ($4.250m) / Henrik Tallinder ($3.375m)
Bryce Salvador ($3.167m) / Andy Greene ($3.000m)
Mark Fayne ($1.300m) / Adam Larsson ($0.925m)
Peter Harrold ($0.750m) /
GOALTENDERS
Martin Brodeur ($4.500m)
Johan Hedberg ($1.400m)
OTHER
Buyout: Trent Hunter ($0.667m)
Buyout: Eric Boulton ($0.250m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,213,000; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,087,000

So it's clear that we don't have much room or money to boost our offence via signings... so its becoming very obvious to me that we cant go on keeping a-train and Salvador on those awful contracts, they bring the same thing and the same sh!t. getting rid of one of those 2 and give the spot to one of the kids or well... to one of the guys rotting in the stands every game.

our d circus carousel situation is really ridiculous, I can't believe Lou keeps this going. I mean we have 3-4-5millions sitting every games sometimes depending on who's sitting. The logic choice to me would be A-Train... an extra 4.2m could help

Henrique and Loktionov will get less than that - neither has arbitration rights.  I think you've overestimated what Zubrus and Ponikarovsky would get paid based on their seasons to date, and certainly Matt D'Agostini isn't going to make 1.8 million coming off two mediocre to bad seasons.

yeah i figure but like i said i'd rather give a bigger contract just to get a framework done based on "worst case scenario" so that we likely endup with more than expected based on that frame you know.

Loktionov might get that much, since he has the KHL option available.  Based on the season he's having now, no way that Poni is signed for anything more than $1 million.  Even for that I don't think he gets brought back.  Assuming no regression, that's Matteau's spot.

Zubrus and Ponikarovsky have the KHL option available too, if you're going to mention that.  Lou's not going to negotiate against the KHL.

the only reason i could see lou do something beyond window dressing is if he sees this as marty's last real shot and wants to take it. it would be very anti-lou to think that way but i wouldn't give it zero credence.

well Lou wouldnt do it just for Marty, Lou always has a win now mentality so it's not that far off. but this year i wouldnt give away any other assets, id try to get some instead

Everything I've read about Zubrus suggests there is no way he goes to the KHL, absent some kind of slap in the face.  He's really attached to the area, and has stated he wanted to play for the Devils even when he was on the Flyers.

Ponikarovsky has no value above what he's being paid now, and, the way he's performed to date, he would be in line for a pay cut.  I'm sure Lou, whether he does not negotiate against the KHL on princple, will not want to see Loktionov walk.

Clarkson's been awful for 20-plus games. He's not the same player he was opening the season or even last year. but anyway...

Handzus [sJS] to Chicago for a 4th

Harry Zolnierczyk [PHI] to the Ducks. Details still to come

EDIT: For Jay Rosehill

both per Bob McKenzie

I interpreted it more as Clarkson needs to be moved because his value is still potentially high to a GM that doesn't know better. His numbers aren't consistent, but they are still relatively high. His last year's goal totals could still be a chip Lou has on the table of other GMs who'd overpay to get him...

Maybe? Not sure..
