There's nothing really interesting about him though. Wouldn't be surprised to see if the following players at least get an invite: LW Chris Shero, D Tyler Wood, the Brodeurs, F Colton Kerfoot, D Nolan Zajac, RW Max Novak, RW Wade Novak. Everything that we sort of assumed with the way things are done here cannot be assumed. For example, the development camp will be at least sometimes open for fans. Wasn't Max with Albany for the last few games on a ATO? I know Matt Lorito earned a contract (w/Albany), did Novak as well? Lorito was better than a ppg 3-9-12 pts in 11 games. Impressive! (source) Yep, Max played 4 games for Albany at the end of the year. I have no idea if he earned a contract or where he will play next year. One of the reasons I think him and his brother may get an invite to camp is because they are NJ natives according to EliteProspects. This alexandre Goulet (that sound funny in french btw) .. turn to be one of the more amazing devils story of all time.. coming from nowhere to be the one that lead us to many cups etc etc... HOLLYWOOD Posted June 29, 2015 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Alexandre Goulet Offensive zone ability: B- Offensive transition ability: B- Puck movement and possession retention: C+ Defensive transition ability: C Defensive zone ability: C Defense: positional Offense: cerebral Keywords, unique identity traits: decently sized wing with speed, some skill, and offensive zone instincts Room for improvement: could be better off-the-puck in defensive situations both in reads as well as intensity, has tools to maintain possession better than he does Full analysis: Alexandre Goulet is a pro-sized forward (playing wing this season in my viewings, but have seen him line up at center the previous year) that has good speed, shot, and is capable of making plays with the puck. Not a lot of attributes outside of that stand out for him, for example he is decent at reading the play but not high-end enough that you'd consider him a very cerebral player or a playmaker. In that respect, he's probably best at reading where he has to position himself to get his shot off. Actually has pretty decent instincts for scoring as well as a decent release. Through transition he gets by. OK at supporting the puck, but capable of a pretty good top-end speed. I think he could utilize his skating better to be a factor on the forecheck and backcheck, not sure if there is enough purpose in his game off-the-puck. In the offensive zone Goulet is at his best looking for spaces where he can get his shot off. Although he is capable of making plays that extend zone time, he is not really a high-end playmaker. Has good instincts in terms of sneaking up on rebounds or operating around the net where he can be a threat as a scorer. I think with his frame and mobility, he could stand to be a bit better in protecting the puck and being harder to play against in that respect with maintaining puck-possession, not a lot of deception in his game that would make the player defending him guessing as to what he's going to do. In offensive transition he has good first few steps and can pick up speed, both to get open as well as to skate with the puck. The deficiency is that he has quite a straight-line speed with not that much lateral agility or crossover ability, which limits him when trying to establish positive gaps. This in turn makes him more of a dump and chase player than necessarily someone who could produce space to gain possession time and make plays for his team in an east-west manner. In defensive transition, he has a long stick and obviously the skating ability is there for him to be a factor. But has inconsistent choices in his reads. I'm not sure whether he always knows what he's supposed to be doing in terms of steering the play or taking positive routes. Would like to see a bit more aggression and have him arrive towards the puck with more intensity. In his own zone, he tracks the play decently but isn't much of a factor. He has the size and the agility that should allow him to win some battles on the wall and in 50-50 loose pucks, but much like in transition, he isn't the most intense guy off-the-puck, nor does he have a very active stick where he'd cover a lot of space and lanes with it. Not deficient but not much current ability there, although he does have the tools for more. Overall, Goulet is a winger that has decent size, good top-speed and acceleration, some skill, and the offensive instincts to be a scorer. If he does make it, he's probably a 3rd line wing that can maybe chip in the odd goal and has speed. Not sure if he has the motor to be cast in a checking role and not sure whether he has the hockey IQ to be a top 6 scorer. Development focus: I think for Goulet he could learn to utilize his frame to protect the puck a little better and gain some possession time for his team. He could also develop his lateral agility better despite good straight line speed. Needs to be a bit more intense and purposeful as a forechecker and in defensive situations. Projection: If he does make it, I'd suspect Goulet has a chance to be a decently sized winger with skating ability and some offensive instincts. Probably 3rd line wing at best, as I don't think he has the hockey IQ to be a top 6 scorer. Would need a better compete level off-the-puck to be cast as a pure checker or log PK time. True and all, but MSL had been lighting up the NCAA to the tune of 2 points per game for 4 years before that. I think that was just the "too small, can't play" stigma of the day. I really can't tell the validity with some of these sites and their writeups, but I have copies of today's NHL Scouting Central's checklists(can't find them right now), but I can you inform you of this... One of the biggest complaints by NHL team scouts of the past were their salaries & benefits packages, especially teams with very high cost of living/high tax metro areas/states. There have been many changes over the past 15 years implemented to help compensate scouting personal. I couldn't believe how low some team scouts were paid in very high cost regions. G Ken Appleby (Oshawa) who just won the Memorial Cup and was passed over in his final year of draft eligibility. He has a .918 SV% in his OHL career. He was a back up in his draft year (12-13) with a .886 SV% in 18 games. In 13-14 he saw more time, 24 games and had a .920 SV%. Last year he excelled as a starter with a .924 SV% and 33.32 GSAA which was 3rd among OHL goalies. He'll be attending Blues camp first (with his OHL teammate Jeremy Brodeur).
