Jagr is frustrated.

The frustrating part is that we do not flat out suck

If we did, it would be an easier pill to swallow.

We are competetive nearly every game, and either win/lose towards the end.  (losing more frequently obviously)

That has to kill a guy like Jagr.  We are SO damn close every game, but always end up on the losing end of it.

Hopefully we can start winning some of these close games

I agree completely.  Triumph pointed out that we just don't generate enough scoring chances.  Our shooting percentage is above league average slightly, but we average the fewest shots in the league.  We dominate puck possession time, and give up the fewest shots in the league which is a plus.  But I'm willing to give up more shots if it means we get more shots.  I think our goalies can actually handle a heavier load of shots.  In fact it might be why they look so inconsistent at times.  I think goalies can face too few of shots, and that there is an ideal number of shots for goalies to face to get in a groove.

"We took bad penalties and it went over and over and the same guys are used all the time and some guys don't play at all. Some guys are used. You depend on scoring, so they're tired after a while"

Looks like he's calling out some players

I have zero issues with him calling out players.  When we went on that penalty barrage, it really turned the momentum around.

the momentum was shot after the 1st, they came out swinging shouldve potted more then one goal and then it was a completely different team out there in the second period

How was he calling out players? It seems like he's calling out coaching a lot more when he says things like the same players are being used over and over and some others aren't. Or when he says we do the same things over and over with no adjustments.

It could be his English but players being used could be a critique of the coaching or saying that certain players can't be used because they don't perform.

Actually, reading it again it sounds like he's saying constantly killing penalties means you burn alot of players' energy while skilled guys sit on the bench

Is Larsson officially healthy?

Sort of? DeBo's justification for not playing him (which I sort of agree with, though it's weird, and only holds water for a couple more days) is that he's not sharp yet, and the other 6 guys are playing well. If Larsson gets a week of practice at full speed, and he's still sitting, then I have a problem.

Well its like that for most teams. Any nhl team is competitive enough to give some trouble and stay in the game but theyll still lose more often in the long run.

Yes but in many of these cases they just get outplayed and don't "deserve" a win

We outplay teams many nights and still come up short on the scoreboard

Such is life when you're dead-last in shots on goal despite allowing the fewest. Devils lead quite handily in both departments. Schneider/Brodeur being league average + 5 more shots on goal on avg = juggernaut. That is also why there's still plenty of hope.

yet he brought back Salvador at the second he was good to play eventhough we we're doing well and didnt need more defensive help.

Actually we really started to suck more when they brought back the 2 old farts in the lineup

I think it is a combination of this. He's saying that our skill players are also the only one used on the penalty kill. So after a few penalties the players who are needed to score are tired out and then tend to take more penalties due to fatigue. Look at who kills penalties: Travis-Zuby, Henrique-Gionta (Elias when healthy) and occassionaly Carter and Loki. Trav, Zuby, Henrique (elias when healthy) are on lines that are depended on for goals, but also have to expend a ton of energy on the kill. So after a penalty kill,  guys like Jagr and Ryder either miss a shift, play with a tired out line mate, or take a shift with a different line, because the PK'rs on their line need a breather. This is not a big problem in my mind. However, in the 3rd period when we need goals (which is every game since we only play 1 goal games) and take a penalty the problem is compounded. Our top skill players are forced to expend energy on the kill and then forced to play every other shift scrambling for a goal. It would be a HUGE help to have a 4th or even 3rd line that could have a player or 2 that can become a PK specialist like we had back with Madden and Pando (Josefson comes to mind). Then in the 3rd period our scoring lines can use up all their energy scrambling for that 1 goal we seem to always need. Gionta kind of fits this, but I don't think of him as a specialist, because: a) I hate him on the PK and b) He's not the #1, #2 or #3, go to killer.
