The FlyerFly Posted February 25, 2005 Share Posted February 25, 2005 (edited) hello everyone. i want to reach every hockey fan i can find to fill everyone in on a petition that has been created. a poster at a Flyers message board made a suggestion and i decided to move on it. ive created an online petition to issue to the NHL with some suggestions on rules changes that we as hardcore hockey fans think are absolutely essential to the survival of the league. not all signees have to agree with every rule change mentioned. the object is to get as many ideas through to the league and hope that a little attention gets drawn either in the media or from the league directly. anyone who signs also gets a comment field where they can sound off about the listed rules they DONT want, or add their own in for good measure. the list of rules is nowhere near all-inclusive, but we hope to get something constructive accomplished. here is the URL of the petition... i hope that most of you feel that this is not only worth adding your name to, but worth passing along to other friends in the hockey community. as fans, we have all been suffering since the lockout started. but maybe we can have a small hand in not having to suffer from the same brand of boring, unexciting hockey when the NHL resumes play that we've seen in the last 8-10 years. please take some time, add your name and comments, and let the NHL know exactly what you think. thanks. Also, the NHL doesn't care about what fans thing, don't you know this by now? 1. Eliminate the instigator rule to create on-ice accountability for excessive violence. The NHL wants to reduce fighting, yes we all know that "stick work" has taken the place of fighting. Prime example of late, the Senators. NHL would never change or consider this one. 2. Revise the offside rule to a "touch-up" style of enforcement. They are already changing or seriously considering this one. 3. Reduce the legal size of goalie equipment to open up the nets for more scoring. Agreed. But from recent news , so does the NHL and they will probably do it now that they could care less about the NHLPA opinion. 4. Revise, review, and ENFORCE obstruction penalties to eliminate the clutch-and-grab style of play. Agreed. But they have tried several times and sworn this time is different. Right. 5. Revise the icing rule to a "no-touch" style. Agreed, and so does the NHL I believe. 6. Make it illegal for the goalie to stickhandle the puck in the corners. Hell f-ing no. Don't dump to the goalie if you don't want him passing it back up ice. 7. Make a minor penalty last the entire two minutes, no matter how many goals are scored. Erm.. I don't know about this one, it would mess up the NHL stats , 2 goals on a PP instead of one. I think I would pass. 8. Eliminate the one point gained in the standings for an "overtime loss". I agree, I never liked this one. 9. Adopt an overtime shootout to be used if one five minute 4-on-4 period is not enough to decide a game. If the game remains undecided after the shootout, then the game is recorded as a tie. Hell No. 10. Use a "quick-drop" style of faceoff for all faceoffs except those that follow a goal or are immediately following a scheduled TV timeout. OK.
