I like the pick from everything I read.

@TGfireandice: Lamoriello called John Quenneville "an Adam Henrique type of player. He can play in all situations."

@TGfireandice: Quenneville:"It's a great moment for me and just to see my family as happy as they are is special for me and I'll never forget this moment.”

@TGfireandice: John Quenneville said he talked to the Devils at the draft combine. Didn't know if they'd pick him. "You're not sure. You just hope."

@TGfireandice: Quenneville, a center, is second cousin of Chicago coach and former Devil Joel Quenneville.

Boo. When this was announced I looked him up on youtube. All there was on there were fight clips. I don't know where Lou gets Henrique from. He did put up decent points this past season. I hear he needs to work on his skating so I'm thinking nay Henrique more like Clarkson. Way to fvck it up, Lou. I swear I wouldn't be surprised if we had number 1 pick next season and Lou passes on McDavid.

"A good skater with strong balance, Quenneville also has a no-quit work ethic that helps him win puck battles."

"I like to pattern my game after Jamie Benn of Dallas [who played junior for the Kelowna Rockets]. I think I play similarly to him. I do similar things, similar body type, also a left shot."

"I liked [Quenneville] a lot when I saw him… He has the pro makeup and is a hard-worker. He makes good plays very quickly and is good at moving the puck. I’d like to see more consistency from him, but I like the way he finds open spaces and his ability to make any kind of pass.”

-David Gregory, NHL Central Scouting

“John Quenneville is developing into a solid two-way forward with the versatility to play both left wing and centre. He really improved this year in all three zones and has moved himself up draft boards all year long. Offensively, Quenneville is at his best controlling the puck down low on the cycle game and setting up teammates with good vision, and very high hockey IQ. He can drive the net when given the opportunity and has the soft hands to finish in close.”

"I would compare Quenneville to a David Perron (Edmonton Oilers) or Jason Pominville (Minnesota Wild); an offensive-minded player with the speed, skills and finishing touch," Marr said. "As he continues to physically mature and gain more experience, he can be that consistent specialty player that helps on the power play."

Scouts like the fact Quenneville has good hands, a hard shot and tremendous motor.

"Quenneville can play center or wing, but I think he's a much more effective player on the wing," MacDonald said. "Injuries slowed him down through the season but he came back strong in the end and had a tremendous finish and exceptional playoff.

Interesting draft. I loved Bettman teasing the Flyer fans. He really owned them when he went to announce that trade. "I might have a trade? Oh now the booing stops."

The Islanders actually acquired the Rangers pick from the Lightning. I like what they did. Snow's comment. Wow. Got full draft coverage on the blog. Put up a post on your pick John Quenneville and found a highlight.

Decent motor, poor skating skills, good offensive skills but inconsistent. Considering that Lemiux was available, this was a subpar selection. If we're lucky, he'll amount to a poor man's Travis Zajac

Please break down for me why Lemeiux is better than Quenneville based on what you actually know. And being Claude's son doesn't count. G'head, I'll wait.

Here's TG's write-up: http://www.northjersey.com/mobile/sports/devils-select-center-with-30th-pick-in-nhl-entry-draft-1.1043031#sthash.FwWHMc1w.dpuf

The Devils kept it in the family at the NHL Draft – again.

Two years after selecting Stefan Matteau, son of former Ranger Stephane Matteau, with their first-round pick, and one year after drafting Anthony Brodeur, the son of their longtime goaltender Martin Brodeur, with their seventh-round pick, they went with another player with NHL bloodlines, grabbing Brandon Wheat Kings center John Quenneville.

The Devils took Quenneville, the second cousin of former Devils defenseman and current Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, with the 30th and final pick of the first round Friday night at Wells Fargo Center.

“I couldn’t believe it,” John Quenneville said of hearing Devils director of scouting David Conte announce the pick. “I was just so relieved to be drafted and be part of an organization. I’m just happy. It’s a great moment for me and just to see my family as happy as they are is special for me and I’ll never forget this moment.”

A 6-foot, 182-pound Edmonton, Alberta native, Quenneville had 25 goals and 33 assists in 61 games with Brandon this past season. He was ranked 23rd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

General manager Lou Lamoriello compared him to Devils center Adam Henrique.

“David really liked him,” Lamoriello said. “He’s sort of an Adam Henrique type of player. He can play in all situations. We’re very happy. We were picking at 30.”

Lamoriello said the Devils had Quenneville rated higher than that. They sweated out the final few picks before they selected hoping that no other team would take him.

“This was a draft that you didn’t know what was going to happen as far as what players would be available [when the Devils picked],” Lamoriello said. “David and our scouts did a great job.”

Quenneville compared his game to that of Dallas’ Jamie Benn.

“I like to play a simple game,” Quenneville said. “When I watch the Devils play I think I see that. I’m a two-way player and I like to chip in offensively. I think I can fit into the way they play.”

Joel Quenneville, now 55, played 74 games for the Devils in their inaugural season in New Jersey of 1982-83. John Quenneville said he knew “nothing” about his second cousin’s history with the team.

“I better study up,” he said.

In addition, Quenneville’s uncle by marriage is Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk. His older brother, Peter, was drafted 195th overall by Columbus in 2013 and his younger brother, David, played in the WHL this past season with Medicine Hat.

Quenneville believes his strong hockey family background has contributed to his development.

“I have a lot of support behind me and it helped me become the player I am and I’m just happy,” he said.

“With his family, he’s a quality, quality kid,” Lamoriello said. “That’s a prerequisite.”

Quenneville met with the Devils at the draft combine in Toronto last month, but he didn’t know if they would pick him.

“You’re not sure,” he said. “You just hope.”

Quenneville said he has “never been to Jersey” before.

“This is my first time on this coast around here,” he said. “I’m excited.”

Because we already have plenty of these types of players on the team (i.e. Matteau, Zajac). He'll be another interchangeable forward. I liked Lemiux's feistiness, it's something this team is lacking. If not Lemiux, even Point would have been a better selection. But go ahead and bash anyone who disagrees with the Infallible Lou. Carry on....

Sure. I'm sure you of all people wouldn't have complained no matter who the pick was. Righty-o. Lemeiux's 'feistiness' right? Quenneville had 5 fighting majors last year just so you know. Sounds plenty 'fiesty' to me. Bottom line is certain people live to complain. It is what it is...
