I don't know where Lou gets Henrique from. He did put up decent points this past season. I hear he needs to work on his skating so I'm thinking nay Henrique more like Clarkson. Two years after selecting Stefan Matteau, son of former Ranger Stephane Matteau, with their first-round pick, and one year after drafting Anthony Brodeur, the son of their longtime goaltender Martin Brodeur, with their seventh-round pick, they went with another player with NHL bloodlines, grabbing Brandon Wheat Kings center John Quenneville. The Devils took Quenneville, the second cousin of former Devils defenseman and current Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, with the 30th and final pick of the first round Friday night at Wells Fargo Center. “I couldn’t believe it,” John Quenneville said of hearing Devils director of scouting David Conte announce the pick. “I was just so relieved to be drafted and be part of an organization. I’m just happy. It’s a great moment for me and just to see my family as happy as they are is special for me and I’ll never forget this moment.” A 6-foot, 182-pound Edmonton, Alberta native, Quenneville had 25 goals and 33 assists in 61 games with Brandon this past season. He was ranked 23rd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. General manager Lou Lamoriello compared him to Devils center Adam Henrique. “David really liked him,” Lamoriello said. “He’s sort of an Adam Henrique type of player. He can play in all situations. We’re very happy. We were picking at 30.” Lamoriello said the Devils had Quenneville rated higher than that. They sweated out the final few picks before they selected hoping that no other team would take him. “This was a draft that you didn’t know what was going to happen as far as what players would be available [when the Devils picked],” Lamoriello said. “David and our scouts did a great job.” Quenneville compared his game to that of Dallas’ Jamie Benn. “I like to play a simple game,” Quenneville said. “When I watch the Devils play I think I see that. I’m a two-way player and I like to chip in offensively. I think I can fit into the way they play.” Joel Quenneville, now 55, played 74 games for the Devils in their inaugural season in New Jersey of 1982-83. John Quenneville said he knew “nothing” about his second cousin’s history with the team. “I better study up,” he said. In addition, Quenneville’s uncle by marriage is Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk. His older brother, Peter, was drafted 195th overall by Columbus in 2013 and his younger brother, David, played in the WHL this past season with Medicine Hat. Quenneville had 5 fighting majors last year just so you know. Sounds plenty 'fiesty' to me. Bottom line is certain people live to complain. It is what it is...
