Lisk says eight players under contract from the Devils will remain with the new Titans, and others will be recruited with the help of the Flyers. Opening night at the Sun National Bank Center is Oct. 22.

Is this wrong then? Not like the press ever gets anything wrong of course.....but that's pretty definitive that the contracts transfer which would indicate they bought the franchise. I would think, anyway...

I wonder if the writer maybe misinterpreted Lisk. My guess is the Titans retain the rights to the 8 players if they want to sign them.

Certainly possible. I’ve never heard of the website this came from before and anyone who’s been involved in a situation that makes the paper knows that details are often incorrect in the reporting….

Plus any of those 8 that were aligned in the Devils system certainly won't be coming to Trenton. Lou would never let that happen.

there is no devils system. the NJ devils wouldn't retain the rights to players who had ECHL contracts; the franchise dissolved, and so would those agreements. players who had AHL or NHL contracts would still be albany and NJ property. the devils may sign one or two of them to AHL contracts, but i suspect the titans will get their pick of players.

Oh definitely, if any of those contracts relate in any way to the Devils, I can’t see it happening. And it’s hard to imagine they don’t tie them to the Devils.

OTOH, they let Leaderer to go Milwaukee last year so….basically I wouldn’t count on any of those 8 being available to Trenton but at this point I wouldn’t rule anything out either.

it's wrong at the pc when asked Lisk said the chance of any players returning were very very remote. At that time they weren't even sure if they owned the rights to the guys they qualified. Apparently it's since been determined they do. Two of the 8 never played for Trenton they were the "futures" for Akeson and Coutu. Some guy Rogers from Wheeling and Veersteg from KZoo. Thankfully Lerg already bailed to Europe.

Others:

Hayes - got screwed several times being a healthy scratch when he was not even in the bottom 5 when it came to on ice performance

Ginand - would think he would get a AHL deal somewhere or look overseas, or Reading

Southorn - meh

Vichorek - big meh

Miller - pass

technicially you're dead on. The tag line since they came to town was every player on our roster is a player the Devils "have an interest in" so that being the case they may just want to create as much distance as possible. Only two guys worth much would be Ginand and Hayes imo and Ginand deserves a look at the AHL level for sure, if that doesn't work could see him go to Reading/Elmira the hot bed for call-ups. Owning a players rights at this level often means less than nothing.
