Per tom gulitti.

Thank god

The New Jersey Devils placed goaltender Scott Clemmensen on waivers Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.

Analysis:

Clemmensen will head to AHL Albany once he clears waivers so he can get some more in-game work than he's gotten with the Devils. Clemmensen has appeared in two games this year, but allowed four goals on 17 shots, and didn't record a decision.

They wouldn't run to bring Marty back at least before giving Kinkaid/Clemmensen a handful of games.

I could see them pulling a Beezer with Marty in the second half of the year, if Marty was interested :P  He did say at some point he had an end date for when he would give up realistically coming back though.

Could it not just be to get Clemmensen into some full-game action in Albany before starting an NHL game on Friday in Detroit? Does that make too much sense, or am I missing something important here?

I don't think that makes much sense.  If they were going to do that, why not waive him on Friday, call up Kinkaid for Saturday's game and let Clemmer take Sunday's game in Albany and Wednesday's game?  Doesn't seem to add up.

dr33:  Kinkaid played Sunday.  Backup NHL goalies routinely get a full week off.

I missed Sunday's game completely and had seen that Wedgewood played Saturday.

I'm not particularly familiar with Albany's schedule and was posting when I should have been working, so I didn't get a chance to look it up. I'm hoping Kinkaid sees some NHL action, but I'm trained as a Devils fan to expect the most uninteresting thing possible, which would be Clemmensen going down just to come back up Friday.

I think you're underestimating the level of uninteresting possible here by the Devils. They're more than likely not even going to bother sending Clemmensen down for a while until they honestly really want him to play which may not be for a week or two.

Lamoriello also announced that backup goaltender Scott Clemmensen will be placed on waivers at noon today and, assuming he clears, will be assigned to Albany so he can play in some games. Clemmensen is at practice today.

Cory Schneider has started all 11 games for the Devils so far. Lamoriello said no decision has been made yet on which goaltender will be called up from Albany to replace Clemmensen, but it would seem that the safe bet would be on Keith Kinkaid. Albany's next game is Wednesday at Hartford.

It's also possible the Devils don't send Clemmensen down right away after clears waivers. Lamoriello said the move would give the team "flexiblity" to send Clemmensen down to play.

“He and I have been totally in tune to what exactly we will doing this year," Lamoriello said of Clemmensen.." So, (this gives him) the flexibility of going (to the AHL). He hasn’t played, so we’ll get him in there to play some games.”
