Fidgetess
The Albany River Rats (12-24-5-5) begin the second part of a 4-game road trip with a 7:35 battle against co-league leaders Rochester Americans (32-9-3-4). The Rats last played Sunday night, in a 2-1 OT loss to the Hershey Bears. Adrian Foster scored the lone goal for the Rats, and Scott Clemmensen made 30 saves in the loss. Rochester is working on a 5 game winning streak, which has propelled the Amerks into a tie for first overall in the league with the Manchester Monarchs. On Wednesday, the Amerks defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs, 3-2. Jeff Jillson had a goal and an assist, and Norm Milley and Milan Bartovic each had one goal. Ryan Miller made 24 saves to pick up 26th win of the season. Jas0nMacIsaac
Ahonen vs Miller. Should be a good goatlending duel.

Jas0nMacIsaac
Why is Clemmensen in nets.....I AM SICK TO DEATH OF FTOREK. Ahonen gets a SO in his last start and the moron starts Clemmensen the next two.

Fidgetess
I'm here (finally...brother's GF wanted to go shopping). Rats were losing 3-0 at the end of the first (yes, I know that changed, but I'm just catching up)...sounds like a pretty testy game as things were getting rough at the end of the first, and then the Rats took a bench unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to put themselves on a 5-3 PK. Dean McAmmond scored 5:37 into the 2nd period, so the Rats now trail the Amerks 3-1.
Fidgetess
Clemmensen gives up a rebound and no defense is around to clear it out, and Novotney puts it into the top part of the net with 6:25 left in the 2nd. 4-1 Amerks There's a "discussion" between the ref and the Rats bench, but the goal will stand. Fidgetess
And Pikkarainen picks up a 10 minute misconduct for complaining to the ref. Scherzer is saying that Clemmensen looks "amazing." I agree with Jason, I have no idea why Clemmensen is playing over Ahonen the last two games. Ahonen is on a hot streak, but he's being benched. With Ari, when he gets on a hot streak, you have to play him! I like Robbie Ftorek, but sometimes he is absolutely frustrating.
Fidgetess
Nittel is credited with the Rats only goal.
Fidgetess
Rats take a penalty for too many men, their second too many men penalty of the game. WTF is wrong with them?!?
Fidgetess
And now the Amerks take a too many men penalty with 17 seconds left in the period...Rats will begin the 3rd period with a power play for 1:43. End of the second, Amerks lead 4-1.
Fidgetess
3rd period started with the teams exchanging power plays, but no change in score.

Fidgetess
There's only so many times you can fire the coach before you realize that it's not the coach that's the problem. Yes, Ftorek does some stuff that I don't agree with, but we were losing before Ftorek came, and we're still losing now that he's here, and I'm willing to bet that if Ftorek gets fired, we'd still be losing. Fidgetess
No, I missed Janssen's fight, and it doesn't sound like anyone else was listening at that time. Sorry Maybe we can get a report from halfshark when he gets back from the game. Edited February 5, 2005 by Fidgetess

A guy like the penguins have right now, AHL pens. He blasted his team and look at the result, they're playing much harder as of late. I've said it before, the system the Devils want the Rats to learn just isn't the right system for these players.

Either way, no shame in losing to this team. Not many teams have beaten them yet! It would just be nice if the Rats could continue the roll they were on before this week off. Yeah, you're right, and normally I'm hesitant to blame the coach, but Ftorek has just been so frustrating this season. He says he can't get through to the guys, he rotates his goaltending assignments with no regard for their performance, and overall it just seems like he doesn't have much control over this team. For example, the too many men penalties. We've had a ton of those this season, and that particular penalty is usually more of a coaching issue than anything else. On the other hand, you can only get rid of so many players before you realize that the players aren't the problem either. Lou has cleaned house a couple times over the past few years with little effect. I'm beginning to wonder if the vaunted Devils organization isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure, Conte and staff manage to scrounge together enough players to keep the Devils supplied, and I suppose that's all most Devils fans care about, but lately they seem to have more misses than hits. Is it scouting, though, or organization philosophy? In other words, does Lou's "offense, BAD!" viewpoint have a damaging effect on the development of some players? Sure, they get an excellent defensive grounding, but it's almost like offense is frowned upon.
