My friends and I got there around 6:45 and walked up to the entrance of Matt’s gorgeous house to see two power player girls standing at the doorsteps. They were quite happily giving a way a loaded gift bag to each entrant to Matt’s house. (SCORE!)
Matt was greeting friends at the door and saw me and waved me over to greet me and introduce his beautiful wife. You could tell he was having a great time as he had a smile from ear to ear with all the guests milling about waiting for Dan-O himself to arrive.
The Devils Mascot was the first to show his face to the kids in the group.
Then Ken Daneyko showed up and worked his way through the crowd. Funny thing about that, he came in the side door. Everyone else was waiting at the front entrance so we all got to shake hands before Matt. Matt’s wife escorted Kenny to the front door and the Devils media crew filmed Matt and his family for promotions.
Because of the crowd I couldn’t get to close to Ken Daneyko for a bit, everyone was congratulating him on retirement and getting his signature on the convenient Devils merchandise we all had just received.
The game started and some of us settled around the TV to watch the game with some nice subs and drinks on hand. The food was great and company couldn’t be much better!
After everyone was satisfied with the meal general conversation broke out. Daneyko proved to be a natural with the crowds as he milled about and had friendly conversations with everyone. As I talked to the Devil’s staff that was present, Jason their boss agreed to let us interview Ken Daneyko for the website! I was so nervous he had to finally corral me and Kenny together. Because of the size of the interview I will place that in another thread.
After the interview we went back to the TV room to watch the Devils painfully lose to the Sabres. Kenny gave comments on the game and the players, like Dan-O’s Den live in Matt’s living room! Once it became obvious that the game was out of hand we took one last picture. After the game ended everyone went onto Matt’s porch and chilled out for a bit before the party winded down.
We had a great time and I want to thank Matt again for inviting me and my group to come.
