njdevsftw
I like those lines a lot. Getting all 3 seems a bit optimistic, but Brunner & Grabo would be sweet (even though 1 year of Jagr seems better to me). Put Olesz in there instead of Raymond and it still looks pretty solid to me. Triumph
And since when does Detroit let a talented under-30 player walk over 500k a year on a 2-3 year deal? They have a bunch of young forwards who are NHL ready and have invested nothing at all in Brunner.
CarpathianForest
My only concern is that Brunner sounds like a bigger version of Tedenby. He doesn't play defense, he was a minus 6 and he's not strong on the puck Here's his scouting report: Assets: Has a proven track record for scoring at lower levels, particularly in Europe. His offensive instincts are excellent, and he also boasts a good shot. Flaws: Is undersized, a bit weak on the puck and somewhat passive in his overall approach. Therefore, he needs to make adjustments to North America.

CarpathianForest
Brunner would be a good signing as long as Lou brings in another forward whether it be Jagr, Boyes or someone else.
nessus
If he is signed by the Devils, let's hope he is able to keep his #24 if you know what I mean... Brunner would be a good signing as long as Lou brings in another forward whether it be Jagr, Boyes or someone else. I don't know how this will be possible without a trade. TheMazz
Grabo would be possible because he's a center but a winger like Boyes or Jagr I just don't see.
CarpathianForest
Someone on one of the other sites said Brunner is an asset because he's a right handed shot and there aren't many left. Boyes is a right handed shot, proven and probably cheaper. I'm really high on him.
cgb6397
Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. There was clearly a drop off in goals last year, as expected with the loss of Parise, now this year we'll be twice the drop off, as Clarky and Kovy are departing. With these three key figures gone, the style of play that brought us to the SCF will probably no longer work. So, instead of trying to create offense by signings, and signings, mind you of a weak FA class, we should work with what we have, and revert back to our old ways. The Neutral Zone Trap folks. With the lack of goal scoring last year, we may as well have played the trap. So what I'm proposing, is put together a group of big, physical forwards (maybe sign Penner and put him in a bottom six, grinder role, maybe on a line with Carter and Bernier) and let our strong suit, our defensemen and the Marty/Schneider win us games.

Zubie#8
Looks like a Sykora, needs to be set up, although he did have some nice asissts in that video.
msweet
He's got a good shot and seemingly quick hands, but he isn't going to be playing with any #13 or #40's here. Hope he can create a little for himself. True enough but we do have a #26 who doesn't have anyone on his level to play with.
Zubie#8
Sykora was slow, easily exhausted, and on the wrong side of 35. This isn't Sykora. Meant his goal scoring, he is getting set up and not generating his own chances.

NewarkDevil5
Meant his goal scoring, he is getting set up and not generating his own chances.Could be interesting to have Brunner or Boyes on a line with Loktionov and Clowe. Clowe does the dirty work in the corners and Loktionov works his magic at passing.

The Devils aren't built to play the Trap, but it doesn't matter. Now that hooking and holding aren't a part of hockey's fabric, the trap is best played with smaller forwards who can take advantage of opponent's mistakes with the puck in the neutral zone. The Devils don't really have that. They have a bunch of big forwards: Clowe, Zubrus, Olesz, Zajac, Bernier - their game is just going to be more focused on grinding down the opponent in his own zone. That prevents the opposition from getting the puck and having it in our zone. The Devils' system is NOT an offensive one even though it's predicated on having the puck in the opposition's end - and Kovalchuk wasn't very good at playing it, either. iamtheprodigy
everyone says he is really good in shootouts. how many shootout attempts has he had? 2 for 7. He's not "really good", he just had one highlight-reel move against Columbus that everyone has seen.

maxpower
You can't really play the trap anyway. To me, "play the trap" means concede 2/3rds of the rink to the opponent, let them shoot from outside, block shots and hope you can counterattack. If you aspire to be the Rangers, great... but all that seemed to do was hold them back.
Triumph
2 for 7. He's not "really good", he just had one highlight-reel move against Columbus that everyone has seen. Well, we can't really conclude whether he is or isn't good from 7 attempts. What we can conclude is that Detroit thinks he was one of their best shootout guys because they used him in 7 shootouts.
