So once again the wool has been pulled over the eyes of New Jersey Devils fans everywhere. It now looks as though the Devils will file for team-elected arbitration before next week’s deadline, which could be as early as Wednesday or as late as next Friday if there is a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals. This essentially would prevent Parise from listening to offer sheets from other teams if he’s still unsigned at noon on July 1, when he’d become a restricted free agent.

These news comes after months of repeatedly being told that Lou Lamoriello and the Devils management would do what ever it took to reach out and sign Parise to an extension. If Parise takes this the wrong this could be the beginning of the end of the Parise era in New Jersey. Let’s hope this is just a way to buy extra time until there is enough cap room to work out a long term deal.
