ugh. this is like when the yankees replaced lou gehrig with babe dahlgren. i mean, yeah, you're not going to replace doc, but don't replace him with that guy. lou must like him because they stand eye to eye.

Well....i saw a really old tape of Doc doing a game and his voice was annoying...then it changed. Maybe the will happen w/ Cangy.

He can handle his own but man is his style annoying. When he says "wide of goal" or "toward goal" I want to throw up in my hands. Then there's the ever popular feces / self-mutilation reference every time someone scores. (Shat! Scar!)

Who knows. Maybe Steve will work on his style a bit now that he's the full-time guy. One can hope, no?

I think people are over-reacting to this. I never watched a Devils game solely because of Doc and years ago he used to irritate me and eventually he just grew on me.

I'll give Steve a few years and I think he is a decent replacement. He does not resort to stupid catch-phrases and rhymes and I think he has decent chemistry with Chico.

Well, this news certainly didn't brighten up my day. Nothing against Steve, but he's a step back. Filling in is one thing, but there's nothing distinctive about him and i just think this was a "lazy" hire or promotion or whatever you want to call it.

Meh, Deb replacing Christine Simpson. I liked Christine :-)

FWIW, I think Cango does a fine job of keeping up with the play. That's one of the toughest things about calling hockey games (a fact Loughlin and Hennessey prove in spades), and he's not terrible at it. But his voice ... ugh. There's a forced, almost cartoonish quality to it, sorta like a bad Casey Kasem impression or something. But, then again, for those slope-browed few who actually dislike Emrick, his voice is often among their top complaints. Maybe Steve's will grow on us.

And apparently Christine Simpson tweeted about a week ago that she's now working for Sportsnet. Guess we shoulda known she was gone. But I'm VERY happy about Deb Kaufman. There's something about female sports reporters with crooked faces ... Kimberly Jones knows what I'm talkin' about.
