While I expect Albany's defense to be better, I don't expect the offense to be any good at all. Joe Whitney could be a find, but without Henrique, this team is going to struggle mightily to score unless one of the forwards really steps up. Hopefully they don't end up dead last in penalty minutes again, although the absence of PL3 and Louis Robitaille should help on that front.

Leach won't play. They're not gonna give a 32 y.o. a spot say a Matt Taormina or a Brandon Burlon can have. Plus Palmieri is practically a definite NJ Devil this year.
They have guys like that for their experience and leadership, plus the fact that he's a better defenseman than all of those guys. Of course he'll play.

I don't think he's better than Taormina but yeah in general, Leach is gonna play 60+ games if he stays healthy.

Overall, agreed. I think he's better defensively, but Taormina definitely brings more to the team.

but why would you take away experience from a kid and give it to a veteran. remember it's the AHL not the NHL.
You need to have some stability on the team or everyone starts to pick up bad habits. By having a guy who understands his position playing, it allows the younger players to learn the proper teamwork in game.

This leaves 8 defensmen (I expect Harry Young to be in the ECHL)
This will be by far the best AHL defense we have had since the mid/late 90's.

If Frazee has nights like this all season long he might get a second shot. But the way Kinkaid looks, its gonna be hard for him to get at least 40 games to do so.Whitney led the way with a goal and an assist as Albany defeated Adirondack 3-1 in their final pre-season game. Zalewski and Anderson had the other goals with Banwell and Burlon picking up an assist each. Frazee had 36 saves on 37 shots.

I think Frazee is going to be given a real shot to get his career back on track. After being up and down in college and then having a real solid first year in the AHL, he's gone back to that high and low trend. While we all want him to do well on the stat sheet, I think his biggest hurdle this year is just staying healthy to be able to get in that many potential games. If Frazee has nights like this all season long he might get a second shot. But the way Kinkaid looks, its gonna be hard for him to get at least 40 games to do so.

This is the best team that Albany's had in a while. And I know I said that last year, but the defense here is quite good - I know I have him in the top pair, but Leach may be the one on the outside.

Players over 320: Pelley, Fraser, Leach, Harrold, Veilleux, Wiseman, Janssen
Players between 260 and 320: Sestito, S. Gionta
I don't think that they will send both Pelley and Fraser down, as a result.

Albany will run into issues with the Development rule though - remember, you have to dress 12 skaters who've played less than 260 pro games, and 13 skaters who've played less than 320 games.
Players over 320: Pelley, Fraser, Leach, Harrold, Veilleux, Wiseman, Janssen
Players between 260 and 320: Sestito, S. Gionta
I don't think that they will send both Pelley and Fraser down, as a result.
This just seems like another mistake Lou has made, not necessarily with the cap but in terms of budgeting. He has wasted a least 2 million in players signed and this jumble mess he has going in Albany.
