Devils D Alexander Urbom was a healthy scratch for the first time this season. D Brandon Burlon, who has played only one game, also was scratched, as were LWs Chad Wiseman, Vladimir Zharkov and Mike Hoeffel. The latter three all have lower-body injuries and will not be available for Sunday’s game at Providence. … Coach Rick Kowalsky wouldn’t commit to it after the game, but rookie Maxime Clermont could make his pro debut in goal Sunday. Jeff Frazee has played the past two games, and Kowalsky said he wanted to use both goalies this weekend.

I suggest clicking the link to read all the notes. Kowalsky talks about Urbom, Burlon, Kelly, and Clermont.ALBANY — Albany Devils forward Vladimir Zharkov, who has missed the past three games because of a lower-body injury, resumed practicing with the team this week, although his return date is uncertain.
Devils coach Rick Kowalsky said Zharkov, who last appeared Oct. 16 against Binghamton and has played five games total (1-2–3, –3), is “day to day” and could play in one of this weekend’s games.
The Devils play Friday night at Binghamton and return home Saturday to face Hamilton.
Forwards Chad Wiseman and Mike Hoeffel have not resumed practicing and are out for this weekend.
Newly acquired Steve Bernier did practice today.

Veilleux and Gabriel Dumont got into a dust-up off a faceoff in the second period. The linesmen broke it up before it turned into a full-fledged fight, but because both players dropped their gloves, they each got roughing penalties for their trouble. Bulldogs defenseman Zack FitzGerald, a former River Rat, took exception to Zajac's goal by slamming him into the boards, earning himself a boarding minor and the jeers of the assembled crowd.
Albany continues their 5-game home stand Wednesday against Binghamton at 7.

Albany defeated Norfolk 1-0 as Kinkaid earned his first professional shutout stopping all 34 shots he faced. Taormina scored the lone goal, off of a loose puck from the left point, with Gionta and Zharkov getting the assists. Kinkaid was the 1st star, Taormina the 2nd, and Zharkov the 3rd with a team high 4 shots. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights.
Their next game is Saturday against Connecticut at 7.
Kalamazoo defeated Wheeling 6-5: Young and Clermont did not play. Sova (E, 5 shots) and Haczyk (-1, 1 Shot).
Sidenotes:
Albany now has a 3 game winning streak, has won 5 of their past 6, and his 8th in their conference. After a bad start its nice to see things coming together, hopefully this continues.
I really wish Burlon stayed for his senior year at Michigan. Due to the defensive depth (which I can't complain about, it's a good problem to have) he has only played in 2 games this year. I expect injuries to occur in NJ and Albany that would open up a spot for him at some point but he could really be getting valuable ice time at Michigan with Merrill being suspended. Plus he missed Michigan's run to the final last year due to illness and would've had another shot at that.

Kinky is gonna be a stud
From what I have seen he plays too deep in his net, something many big goaltenders have a habit of doing. He should challenge more.

And i guess this is the biggest blow to the organisation in losing the T-Devs.
We have no control over the minutes played by out prospects outside Albany.
This is a huge blow to Clermonts development.

Most NHL organizations do not have direct control over their prospects' playing time while in the ECHL (or anywhere other than the AHL).And i guess this is the biggest blow to the organisation in losing the T-Devs.
We have no control over the minutes played by out prospects outside Albany.
This is a huge blow to Clermonts development.
I do have to wonder, though; why isn't Clermont in juniors anymore? Is he too old? Did the Devils believe he'd get more playing time in Albany (or Kalamazoo) than he has to date?

It seems he hasn't technically been re-assigned by Albany yet back to Kalamazoo. I'd expect it to happen before the week is over though. I think he could've done another year of junior but I guess both he and the Devils felt it was best for him to go professional now. Not to be a pessimist but I'd be surprised if the Devils organization made it the rest of the year without an injury to Brodeur, Hedberg, or Frazee. Clermont should be able to get enough ice time when all is said and done. He's spent most of the echl season in Albany with Brodeur being hurt.
