Interesting Albany update from Pete Dougherty. Explains why Clermont wasn't re-assigned to Kalamazoo right away and gives an injury update which should help Burlon get some playing time.

Special assignment coaches Jacques Lemaire, the former Montreal, Minnesota and New Jersey head coach, and Jacques Caron have been working the A-Devils’ practices this week as the team begins a three-in-three Friday night against Norfolk.

Because of the presence of Caron, a goaltending specialist, the Devils kept rookie goalie Maxime Clermont with the AHL club a few extra days before officially reassigning him today to ECHL Kalamazoo.

“We wanted to make sure everybody was 100 percent healthy up top,” said Kowalsky, referring to New Jersey, “but we probably still would have done it. Kalamazoo doesn’t play until Friday, and with Jacques Caron here, we wanted to take advantage of it as much as possible. We went on the ice with a small group and just Max on Monday to get some good quality time with Jacques.”

Albany defeated Norfolk 2-1 behind goals by Gionta (Wiseman and Corrente) and Taormina (Bernier and Berube). Kinkaid stopped 24 of 25 shots earning himself the second star. Taormina was named 1st star. Corrente left the game in the 3rd, hopefully its nothing serious, he's been having a solid year. Gionta tied the Devils franchise record for goals with 52 (tied with Mike Swift). The lone goal Kinkaid gave up was on a Norfolk PP and ended his 126:57 shutout streak dating back to November 2nd against Binghamton. Burlon got into a game with Leach injured and was a +1 with 1 shot. Here is the gamesheet. Below are the highlights.

Albany defeated Syracuse 1-0 behind a 20 save effort by Frazee, who was named 3rd star. Scoring for the Devils was Perkovich (PP, Anderson and Sislo) who ended up 2nd star. The Devils outshot Syracuse 37-20. Here is the gamesheet. I'll add the highlight video to this post if there is one posted later.

Their next game is Sunday against Toronto at 4:00.

Still no word on what Corrente's injury is from the other day but he didn't play tonight.

Kalamazoo defeated Chicago 7-4: Young and Clermont did not play. Sova (3 Assists - 1 PP, +3, 1 Shot, 2nd Star) and Haczyk (Goal, +4, 4 Shots). Young hasn't seen any game action since 10/22.

He's off to a great start but it's still a small sample size: 6 GP 4-2 1.82 GAA .935 SV% 1 SO Hopefully he can have a solid rookie year.

Yea it will be interesting to see how we handle FA in the future now that we have cheap effective prospects at the AHL level.

Albany lost to Toronto 4-3 in overtime. Scoring for the Devils was Bernier (SH, Zajac), Perkovich (Wiseman and Zalewski), and Anderson (Taormina). Kinkaid stopped 31 of 35 shots in the loss. This shouldn't be that surprising. Harrold and Corrente are probably above average AHL Ds. Taormina definitely is. Urbom might be too. People like Sestito and Veilleux are probably good defensive players, too.

I completely forgot about the Kalamazoo-Trenton game until now. Kalamazoo won 4-3: Sova (E, 1 Shot, 2 PIM - Interfernce), Haczyk (E, 4 Shots), and Clermont (31 Saves on 34 Shots) for the K-Wings. Banwell (-1, 1 Shot) for the Titans.

I'd love for Sova to get a chance to move up to Albany but with the amount of d-men there he seems stuck in the ECHL.

Albany won a crazy game against Hershey 6-5 with a shoot out. After going down 2 goals early on the Devils countered with 3 straight goals, Perkovich (Wiseman and Zalewski), Zajac (Zharkov), and Gelinas (PP, Taormina and Sislo). Hershey would tie it up shortly after that and then the Devils would exchange goals with Hershey twice, Bernier (Zalewski and Wiseman) and Sestito (Zharkov and Burlon). The Devils won the shootout 3-1 with goals from Sislo, Anderson, and Bernier. Kinkaid stopped 28 of 33 shots including 3 of 4 in the shoot out. Bernier was 2nd star and Zharkov 3rd. Defense has been the backbone of Albany’s turnaround from a 1-5-0-0 start to a 7-1-1-1 record in its last 10 games. Entering a one-game weekend (at Hershey on Nov. 19), the Devils occupied the top spot in the Northeast Division with an 8-6-1-1 record (18 pts.).

“We have to play good defensively if we want to win,” said defenseman Alexander Urbom, who leads the team with a plus-3 rating. “It’s not just the defensemen, it’s the whole team.”

The Devils 10-game stretch has been the most successful since an 8-2-0-0 run midway through the 2008-09 season. During the most recent span, the team has posted a 1.96 goals-against average with two shutouts.

Of the team’s eight victories, seven have come in one-goal games.

I suggest checking out the full article, seems like guys are really buying into the system. Note this article was published before the Hershey game Saturday night.
