This is hilarious, how many teams are going to be handicapped by big goaltender deals.
I agree, signing goalies to long term deals isn't the smartest move.

I'm glad we didn't touch that.

Worth every dime.

I agree. Anyone bashing this deal on here better be equally critical of the Kovy deal.

well at least when Kovy is not playing well he's still on the ice trying... and even if he doesnt perform well there's other guys who can get the job done... but when you have 7m sitting on the bench not even playing... that hurt

Amazingly, this deal is probably worse than the Kovalchuk deal. It's especially worse because of the cap situation of Nashville - they are a floor team. They're now spending just under 50 million dollars on player salaries. Investing 1/7th or 1/8th of that in a goalie who's had one elite season and 2 average-ish ones isn't really the smartest solution.

Yeah, trying to beat three defenders by himself.

alright come on now, if the guy is trying to make plays or pass on a 2on1 people are whinning that he's a shooter and thats what he's getting paid for and that he's not producing like he was in Atl, and when he's trying to make stuff happen and shoot like he use to people are still bashing him cause he's doing too much by himself

But Jay Grossman loves both the Kovy and Rinne deals... (both clients)

When Kovalchuk is not playing well, a big part of that is trying too hard by doing it himself, often to results that make him look like he's playing poorly. I think alot of it is frustration more then selfishness.
Going 1 on 3 is not "trying". It's more like over-trying to negative results.

This has zero to do with the Kovy deal. Kovy is (was?) a premier scorer and those don't grow on trees. Conversely you can get a lot of goalies that can put up numbers, particularly with a defense like Nashville's (look at how good Lindback was for them last year). Not to mention Nashville has a lower cap than most of the league.
