it all depends on how much we are leaking past operating costs. and who really knows that informationI trust Forbes and they say the Devils are in trouble and are losing value and the debt is bigger than the value.

Right and there's definitely truth to that, but how are we losing close to the same as the Coyotes? Why wouldn't the NHL step in if it was that bad? Why doesn't this source report on last years numbers, which had to have been worse?
I'm just trying to say that I think The Post is getting more and more ridiculous with their coverage of this, and less and less believable.. We won't actually know the severity of all of this until we see how the team spends in the offseason, but as of right now we aren't cutting and that's good to see

Because the Devils have a brand new arena and a TV contract worth over $100 million, among other things.
bingo
plus, where are you going to move the Devils where they're going to do any better. The worst kept secret in hockey is Phoenix to Quebec...after that what other markets are out there. Would the Devs do any better in KC...no chance.

Conspiracy theory much? It's already been pointed out that the NHL tries to help out all of its troubled franchises to the extent possible. Besides, they'd have to make at least a token attempt to bail the Devils out, otherwise they'd be vilified in the media and perhaps by some of the other owners. Why would the NHL help us? They seem to hate the fact we even exist. Going back to when we had to pay the Rangers and Flyers for "invading their fanbase territory," not getting big name recognition for winning 3 CUPS and all those playoff appearances with Division Championships. I guess the only way you get recognition is to be an Original 6 or sign the next Gretzky (which probably still won't gain us elite status)
It's just seemed that the league doesn't mind undermining us when they can from growing into a household name outside NJ. Why would they care if we went away, other than it would upset the balance of the conferences?
of the Devils' mascot, NJ Devil, and
of all mascots far and wide.IT IS VERY HARD TO WIN ONE STANLEY CUP, FORGET ABOUT THREE... and maybe it's high time some of you actually APPRECIATED THAT instead of treating it like it's some flipping birthright because for some random reason you rooted for the damn Devils!!!!!

Of course, making the payment is an entirely different story and I'd rather hear good news asap

Bettman on Devils: Helping owners sort out, team is stable.
David Shoalts @dshoalts
Bettman says NHL "is not subsidizing" New Jersey Devils but implied league is advancing money to the team from its share of league revenue.
David Shoalts @dshoalts
Bettman also said Ray Chambers is still the main co-owner of Devils with Jeff Vanderbeek. He's trying to get one of them to take over.

“I think winning against them in the big stage, not just for me, but for the fans of New Jersey, people that are supporting us and always take a second seat to these guys for whatever reason, now they’ve got to be pretty happy going to work and going to school and doing all their things that they do." - Martin Brodeur

Bettman didn't have any problems fining the Devils $3 Million for the Kovy dealings and stealing a couple of draft picks to boot, but now he's going to provide collective cash to the rescue? Nice paradox in today's NHL world.Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski

I'm waiting for the league to lower the CAP, because too many of the franchises are having financial problems. US teams that are doing okay are the big mono markets with plenty of business seating sales.

we have about 26m (with the current cap) to spend in the summer on Zach, Brodeur, Ponikarovsky, Carter, Sykora, Janssen, Mills, Salvador, Foster, Fayne...
from all those players some are not returning IMO (Foster, Mills, Janssen) Brodeur could retire so thats some money off the book too... Zach is a priority and should be the first of those player to sign and fill the holes with the other days who should all stay around the same price (except Fayne) or get less money on their next
so basically, wtv what Zach salary and cap hit would be it would not be a problem... it should be "can devils resign parise (their future) with their financial troubles" it should be "can the devils resign Brodeur if he decide to stay for another year"
Edit: i guess huge signing bonuses that other teams could offer would be tempting for zach and his agent

even if there's report everywhere about it i don't see why all this trouble could prevent us from signing Parise, other than if its scaring him away.

The way I see it, if Marty wants to come back for another season with the Devils he'll need to take a discount.. It will be more about extending his career 1 more year than it will be about making money for himself.. He could probably make more money next year being retired and building himself as a brand (which he's already started - MB30)
If he wants to be on this team, he needs to take a salary cut to help us out, otherwise Lou should tell him to field offers from other teams and go for his payday
