why would LA want to reunite carter and richards after the "rumors" that they were bad in the locker room
Because they can't score for sh!t and there's not a whole lot of other options for bringing in a top line kind of guy.

Wow, so Columbus in effect traded Voracek and Courturier (or maybe they would have taken Hamilton had they kept the pick) for Jack Johnson and a low first round pick.
Remind me of this the next time I complain about Lou.
Every move or signing they made this past offseason was such a mega-fail it's not even funny. I know Wisniewski had a good year last year, even though he played for like 3 teams, but he was in no way a #1 guy worth 5 mil+ or whatever they gave him and it was just downhill from there.

It must really suck to be a Blue Jackets fan. I wonder what bad return they are going to get for Nash...
One of the rumored trades with the Rangers would be a pretty good return, Dubinsky, Kreider and a first. Apparently the Rags are balking at that, so maybe they get Erixon and McAlraith instead of Kreider.
Not bad especially when you consider that Atlanta basically got nothing for Kovalchuk (yes I know circumstances a little different contract wise).

Earlier report said Rangers have definitively said they are not trading Kreider, so they'd be offering Dubinsky, McIlraith, and a pick for Nash. That's a horrible return. Dubinsky's a 2nd line center on his best days, McIlraith is an unknown and pure defense, the draft pick would be a low first rounder I'd imagine - I don't think they have anyone else's first this year, but I can't remember that specifically. One of the rumored trades with the Rangers would be a pretty good return, Dubinsky, Kreider and a first. Yeesh, that's like the Marian Hossa deal all over again. Just highway robbery in the long run, as a talented player walks out the door.
Also, your post about "remind me about this the next time I complain about Lou" is dead on. Talk about getting a crap return. Of course, Carter will elevate his game now that he's in LA - because he never wanted to be in Columbus and dogged it. Combine that with injuries and a losing team and for the first time in his professional career he had to find reasons to play competitive hockey rather than just take the ice knowing it was gearing up for a playoff run. I guess Columbus just really wanted him gone.

Fvck the Rangers! I'm calling horseh!it if they get Nash. How can one team have Nash, Gaborik and Richards and still be under the cap?
This! RIGHT HERE! They just keep adding contracts! How, when the Devils were STRUGGLING to get things together after signing Kovy with his 6.66m cap hit?!?! I don't get it.
(In reality, I do. To his credit, Sather has made awful contract after awful contract disappear somehow. But no, somehow the Kovalchuk fiasco was much, much worse circumvention and deserved punishment. It was so much worse than just burying Redden in the minors, shoving drury on LTIR, or somehow convincing Montreal to take Gomez.

Go to Capgeek, which will show you how the numbers work. (To save you they time, they do).
If they do get Nash, there's no chance they sign Parise (my biggest nightmare come true). It also means that the Rags are for all intents and purposes out of the free agent game for the foreseeable future.

The Devils had almost no young players when they had to fit the Kovalchuk deal in. Plus the Rangers don't really have a bad deal on their books right now besides the Redden deal which doesn't count.

I like reuniting Carter/Richards. They produced in Philly. I definitely think LA won the deal as Carter can go when hes on. It definitely sounds like Lombardi wants to really shake it up. This sort of move will keep his job or assuredly lose it.
Jack Johnson just went from playing in LA to playing for the bottom feeding Blue Jackets. Put yourself in that dude's shoes right now. Regardless of record, getting the rug pulled out from under you and landing on your ass in Columbus, Ohio.....not the worst place in the world, but c'monnnnnnnn.

the Dubinsky deal isn't looking so hot right now at like $4.2mil per year. He's got something like 6 goals this year and around 19 assists? That's not $4mil dollar production. That being said, he's played mostly bottom 6 minutes and not gotten to sniff the 2nd line a whole lot lately. He also isn't being a terrible detriment to the team on the whole as his defensive play is still good.

Sorry, what was the question?
But sidebar: I'm personally very glad LL and Debo announced Zach won't be traded this deadline...will make things much, much less stressful

i would be totally fine with the rangers getting nash. as has been discussed, they have to give up something decent and it would absolutely eliminate them from parise.
True but they end up being a strong contender.

Here's the thing about this deal: the Jackets are trading their franchise player, who also happens to be signed for the next six years. *Franchise player*. If they are giving up the guy they've been bulding around for years and the face of the club, and Sather says "okay, I'll take your best player, but you can have anyone but this guy and this guy, and this guy, and this guy... in return", they'll just tell the Rangers to GTFO. They're supposed to give up their best player and the other team is nitpicking and giving up scraps?Earlier report said Rangers have definitively said they are not trading Kreider
If Nash was a pending UFA, then yes, Columbus would have their back against the wall, sort of. Like the Thrashers with Kovalchuk, with everyone around knowing he told the team he's leaving. But the BJs might just say "okay, guys, your offers suck, we're sticking to him" and keep him or look at offers during the summer or before the next deadline. They won't give Nash away for nothing.
This. Plus the trade might screw up their chemistry a little bit. Sather has been doing some good signings lately (!!) and it's really easy to go back to screwing the club over with big contracts. If he sends someone valuable the other way and Nash is a bust, the Rangers are looking so much worse than now. You're leading the conference by several points, the team finally clicked... Why risk dismantling that?i would be totally fine with the rangers getting nash. as has been discussed, they have to give up something decent and it would absolutely eliminate them from parise.
That's why I hope they pull the trigger on this.

Call me crazy (go -ahead), but I'm betting with Feaster announcing his displeasure of the vet leaders in CGY after some recent uninspired play and route losses - is Jay Bou possibly available now?
The contract is HORRIBLE - I get it,- but with the penchant for Debo seeming to be able to maximize play out of players he has coached (and for those who liked playing for him) if this is less far-fetched than once thought before? The winds in CGY seem to be pointing to a much needed full-rebuild if the next few games go bad.
JBou's been a bit better this year on a HORRIBLE Flames team, logs huge minutes, and is an Iron man in regards to games played.
YEs, he's soft, but if it becomes more apparent that Suter will not be available this Summer if this is something LL considers. Perhaps with a defenseman going back.
Like I said, I wouldn't have thought it possible if not for the Debo connection, but then again I would have not thought Clarkson getting 20 + goals possible at the outset this year either.
The adding salary thing is an issue with the teams finances I see as well.
Ideally Vishnovsky fits this bill the best - but if ANA isn't selling?
Just a random thought.

Are you *** kidding me? -22 worse than the 2nd worst? How is that humanly possible? Do you need more? Here's the year before:
First thing...Tri, what are you basing your criticism of Johnson on? I'm not saying you're wrong, he could very well suck as much as you say, but how many games have you seen him play? Do you really have enough of a feel for him? I'll be the first to admit I've barely watched him at all, and even when I had opportunities to, I wasn't saying to myself "Let me tune in to the Kings to see what Jack Johnson's all about."
Having asked these questions, I clicked on the hf link, and admittedly, those +/- numbers are pretty damning...wow.

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime? - Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.
Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.
It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.
