Why do you guys even bother parsing the NHL front page? That ain't the first place I'm looking for Devils news before the Devils' own site, TG's Fire and Ice blog or message boards like this. Honestly I think some of you aren't happy unless you have something to complain about :P

its just that no wonder Kovalchuk is getting so much hate... he's on the main page when he's scoring in his own net, he's on the main page when he's losing the puck on a penalty shot but then he's having a hat trick and 4 pts night and its nowhere to be found

<3 Kovy!

Marty looking like his old self again is good news!

Now just wrap up Zach long term before the deadline and let's bring home the cup! :D

We still won't be the first headline on NHL.com when we do.

we could win the cup and they'd make the headline on whoever got the Conn Smyth (from the other team obviously)

What sucks is that when the Rags win the cup, Lundqvist will get the Conn Smythe; an award Marty doesn't have, but deserved in 2003.

New York is a major market team and a the city is a huge media market. Of course it's going to be the front page news. Plus, the NHL is so out of touch with their fans, they only think NYR, PITT, CHI, and PHI have fans. Why else would they have like six headlines covering whether or not Sid the Kid took ibuprofen or whatever.
The NHL and the moneyed interests shape the season narrative, not teams or fans.

That's not quite it. Ignored isn't the problem. But not having anything on Koby's trick. I remember the other night when the Devs beat the Rangers thanks to Clarky's tying goal, the words "bad bounce" were boldened and led to a review talking about how the Rangers bad luck ruined their win.

That's my point. The Rags are a cash cow so the NHL shapes their season narrative much like Crosby and the Pens.

That's taking it too far imo...there just isn't enough regulation on that site. I think whoever is in charge of that review and editing the site can post whatever they want, unedited.

If the Devils beat the Rags in 7 to go to the Cup this year I honestly don't know if I would even be upset if the Devils lost in the finals. I think it would be so unexpected and hilarious.

Elias is such a great player what passing and Kovy with the hat trick just awesome. Marty played a great game.
Looking good with still players to return from injury that will only help the team.

Um does anybody realize the Devils are 1 point out of 4th?

Yep, and that should really be the focus at this point. The Devils are 11 points out of first in the Atlantic, and the Rangers have a game-in-hand. It's going to be near impossible to catch them, especially with Lundqvist playing so well. But yes, the Devils are in thick of it, in terms of 4th and possible home ice in the first round. It wasn't so long ago that the Bruins looked so unbeatable, but the Devils are now within two points of them...yes, Boston has two games in hand, but just the fact alone that the Devils are that close to them is a feat in itself.

Pretty amazing for a team that was just 12-12-1 after its first 25 GP, and had just 6 regulation wins in that stretch. They've since gone 20-8-3, with 14 of those wins coming in regulation.

Just out of curiosity, what could you possibly say that could piss off Ranger fans? Considering the way the Rangers have played and where they are in the standings, as a Devil fan I'd think it would be wiser to lay low.

THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime?
- Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.

Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.

It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

I'd almost rather decline home ice in the first round after all the home playoff disasters at the Rock (3-7 overall record) thank you very much

I do get a good feeling about this team that if they get in, they shouldn't be a one-and-done this year though. Both talentwise and chemistry-wise.

"The Devils have high standards, that's the difference. We have a standard to live up to every year, and a couple of teams in our area don't have the standards we do." - Pat Burns

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03
