well it will be my first game at the rock or devils game out of montreal so was thinking of going to one of the games during the playoffs for the first round and was thinking whats the best way to get to new jersey. train car? and also what are the cheapest hotels around the city? also what would be the price range for lower bowl section

The drive's not bad, about 6 hours or so. A straight shot down. I'd imagine train would be a little pricey, but maybe worth it if you're traveling alone.

If you're looking for cheap hotels in NYC you're likely out of luck. In Newark, there's a Hilton right by the arena, which is probably the most convenient, if not the cheapest (looks to be about $220 a night for the weekend the playoffs would start - I'm sure if you're willing to travel a few stops on a train you could find much cheaper in the suburbs).

The lower bowl runs anywhere from $75-ish (behind the nets, last rows) to $250-ish for (club seats, all-inclusive). Prices will likely go up for the playoffs, so I'd count on tickets being a minimum of $100/per in most parts of the lower level.

The price isn't the issue with the train, it's the length of the trip. The train from Montreal takes FOREVER to get to Albany; 8 hours, to be exact (compared to 4 hours driving). The rest of the trip is three hours, which is about the same as driving.

Is about 1.5miles up route 21 from the rock. I see prices about $60 a night on expedia.

A company in newark uses this hotel for employees to stay at during bad weather and I heard it is good, not a "luxury hotel". All depends on what you are looking for.
