The NHL Dept. of Player Safety looked several times at Bergenheim roughing hit on Volchenkov last night. No hearing scheduled at this time.

What a joke.

I constantly hear Shanahan talk about taking head shots out of the game but this is either the third or fourth Devils player this year that had the opposing player use his body to make the principle point of contact with the Devils player's head. In the season there was Myers on Zubrus and Cole on Larsson, neither of which resulted in a suspension. I feel like I'm missing another hit but I could be wrong. Now we have Bergenheim on Volchenkov which was also a clear headshot and Shanahan is content to let it slide.

That was a really clever dirty move by Bergenheim. I have to say I'm impressed.

I wish the NHL had reviewed it and punished him but because it didn't look awful enough to get on sportscenter I guess they won't.

They give out suspensions for hits against the glass...which is juuuuust a bit more flexible than freaking ICE.

If that was on Crosby, Bergenheim would be gone for the playoffs :whistling:

"The $297,297 Kovalchuk missed today is money he will never, ever get back. And the more cheques he misses, the better the deal is going to have to be for the players to justify him sitting out. And unlike the owners, the players can direct their leadership to get a deal done regardless of how disadvantageous it is to them."

The hits and punishments during the playoffs thus far is a joke. Shannahan needs to step down because he clearly isnt doing his job effectively. Its out of control at this point.

We should say Volch is out due to injury, that would kill two birds with one stone, since Shanny only suspends you if the other guy is hurt.

"The Devils have high standards, that's the difference. We have a standard to live up to every year, and a couple of teams in our area don't have the standards we do." - Pat Burns

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

This likely has been covered in another thread, but this is terrible policy. The NHL is so shortsighted by taking into account the result and the action. Bad, bad policy.

Shannyfanny is butthurt over being booted from the devils. He should not be making the calls related to this team.

rinaldo falls and intentionally lands on the back of crosbys head with an elbow.

would that be a suspension? it would be. another crap decision. luckily volch is a true gritty guy.

Honestly, I don't think this should be a one-man job. It should be a small committee and it should probably involve an NHLPA representative. I've read ideas about that around the webs and it seems to make more sense.

Definitely, it doesn't make any sense that such important rulings come from one man's opinion.
