hell yes!!!! what a win!!
Unfortunately i had to work tonight. ive watched all the videos i can and i am THRILLED!!
So did we trap in the 3rd or not? who cares honestly we shouldn't be criticized for it.
GOOD WIN BOYS!!
We did not play a neutral zone trap in the 3rd period. They did play a passive forecheck (standard 1/2/2) where only 1 forward chases down the puck deep in the offensive zone and the other 2 wingers stay at the hash marks or higher to prevent the other team from firing the puck around the boards for a quick breakout. That is a standard formation, especially for a team with a lead in the 3rd period.
Just a great all around game!!! Going down 2-0 and coming back shows a lot about the mental makeup of this team, and frustrated the Flyers to no end. You can see it on their faces and in their actions (Hartnell throwing his gloves like a kid who didn't get the toy he wanted at Toys-R-Us, Giroux taking a cheap shot on Zubrus, basically every Flyer player complaining to the refs throughout the game and during the warmups in between periods. Just fun to see.

It kind of looks like PDB (who's almost never ANGRY, so. . .)Can someone tell me who the Hulk is in this picture?
Kind of strange that we have all of these Scandinavian players, yet Marty is Thor. Maybe he should be the Hulk?
Also, Nick Fury, clearly that should be Salvador. And maybe Deb for one of the female roles (or both

I still can't get over that timeout by Laviolette less then five minutes into a scoreless game
Talk about being proactive. I mean really, if you have to take a timeout less then five minutes into a scoreless game clearly nothing you said in the locker room before the game did any good, so thirty seconds is going to help?
It was absolutely the right thing to do. The Devils had all the momentum and were dominating. The Flyers drew two penalties after that and scored two goals - one shorthanded. Even though the Devils have been much better than the Flyers, the timeout allowed the Flyers to get back in the game for a little while.

The Flyers scored 2 goals about 7 and 9 minutes later. The Flyers stayed flat coming out of that timeout, it didn't change the game at all.

Agree with Laviolette calling the timeout (understood why he did it at the time), and agree that it didn't make much of an impact. Flyers taking that 2-0 lead seemed very flukey at the time...even the Devils seemed to know it on the ice...they seemed to take a "Yeah, whatever, we'll be fine, just gotta keep playing our game." approach...no nerves whatsoever. Shows how confident the Devils are in their gameplan right now.

Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime? - Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.
Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.
It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.

Maybe I didn't articulate my point well. The Devils didn't come out of the timeout with the same momentum. Along with that it cannot be denied that the Devils did not score first and that the Flyers may not have scored the first two without the timeout. Point is that he took the time out and the Flyers ended up leading 2-0 when it looked like it was going to start horribly for them. I'm not saying the timeout scored them two goals but you can't diss Laviolette for taking the timeout when the Flyers eventually ended up 2-0.

During the regular season the Flyers were awful in the first period and numerous times Lavi would call a quick timeout and the team would respond well.. Look at how the Flyers went down 3-0 to the Pens in game 1, Lavi timeout, flyers came back stronger and won the game
A weird strategy, but it worked for them all year

Flyers lost the game, why can't I credit the Devils eventual win with that early timeout by the Flyers? If a timeout is going to have an impact it's going to be immediate, and immediately following the timeout the Devils were still the better team. The timeout didn't help the Flyers garner either goal, no more than it hurt the Flyers in allowing 2 goals that period.
I'm not dissing the timeout, but it didn't help, so it was wasted. Either the timeout timing was bad or the coaching staff wasn't able to use it effectively, either way it didn't work.

this, i think flyers must have thought this flat first period was an issue for them and tried to stop it; not realizing that the devils play well going down a goal in the first period...
DM mentioned the stats, but i think they show a losing record when they score early, or first; at the same time id be sure devils have a winning record when they get scored on first.

Again, the Devils did not score following the timeout. They very likely would have if no timeout was taken. No goal was scored and the Flyers were able to take the lead later on. Of course the Flyers eventually lost the game because the Devils were better in every area.

I'm pretty sure that in every game of this series, the team that scored first has lost.

heh. I seem to recall the players saying they wanted to stay in the playoffs long enough to get him back in the lineup. Pretty cool.

In the Flyers playoff series this season, the team that scores first is 1 win to 9 losses.

at this point it's hard to argue the Devils aren't running as close as it gets to all cylinders.
I'm impressed how they are just EVERYWHERE on the ice right now.
When a Cryer turns around, or has the puck, there's a Devil in his face.
That's Devils hockey & I'm glad they decided to play this way now, when it counts.

Remember JJ is going to start skating soon. He may not even play still unless someone else goes down.
If/when he gets healthy he IS NOT going to play unless someone gets injured. No need for us to tinker with the lineup right now. We have 4 strong lines that are performing extremely well....
