No killer instinct. They find ways to lose and tonight's no exception.

They certainly found ways to lose all the way to the cup finals

Sigh.

-The first Kings goal was a softy
-Clarky and Fayne had misses that were unbelievable.
-We outplayed them in the 3rd and most of OT.

Who was the idiot defending the breakaway?

I saw Zubrus and Salvador back there but zids was MIA

How was this game going to be a blowout win? At no point did the devils lead in this game.

It's a blowout win if we're not throwing up on ourselves every time we were presented with a wide open net.

Sorry but losing a blowout win is when we actually blow a lead that we actually had. We just missed glorious opportunities and so did the kings.

Definitely not happy with the way that one played out. It felt like the Devils weren't ready to play from the start. But it was close, and they finally got their game going in the 3rd period. They had their chances. I can't complain. Hopefully from here on out, they realize how important each game is.

The Kings actually got outplayed for literary the first time in the playoffs by us and they pull off a win...

They in no way had what Clarkson and Fayne had. No Goddamned way in Hell.

Could be worse boys - could have outplayed a team and been shutout.
We've been here before.

Oh well... Hate to lose the home ice advantage right off the bat and be put in a must-win situation for Game 2, but losing the first one has been the story the last two rounds and we've been doing well. These Game 1's are different animals, you always have teams sort of getting to know each other (even if they're divisional rivals, it's been a while since they last played each other) and this is the first time players are trying to transfer all the theoretical stuff coaches came up with to the ice. PDB seemed to implement the right strategies for Game 2 against both the Flyers and the Rangers and this team has played under pressure a lot already - plus the Kings didn't impress me at all. So, no panic. It just stings that even if we win, we're still the team that has to steal one on the road.

To be fair, the Devils didn't impress either and Kovy wasn't really himself until OT or so, but hey, it can only go uphill from here. Marty, OTOH, except for that ugly first goal, was solid tonight.

Brodeur played out of his mind and that save where he stacked his pads saved a goal that was pretty much certain.

Oh, and I don't get people saying it should've been 5:0 Devils or so. Really? They started awfully, had a really rough 2nd period until the last 5 mins or so and it wasn't until that goal (18:48 into the 2nd) that they started playing with energy. They looked good in the 3rd and I think they played really, really well in OT, so I think they deserved an OT goal, but no way in hell they deserved to win this thing by multiple goals. They were simply invisible for too long.

Having a goalie play out of his mind is not the same as repeatedly choking on open nets.

If you want to count players missing glorious chances as part of a blowout then pretty muh every game played is a blown blowout game.

Yea Marty made up for that softy big time. Even the open net misses arent as bad as how bad Marty got left out to dry. That is inexcusable sh!t.

Overall I think we at least put a message towards the kings that we will not be pushovers like the teams they have faced so far.
