I mean if we lost 3-2 and it was a relatively clean game other then our homerism qualms fine. But to lose on a boarding call that should have never happened if the refs did their jobs and protected out player feels hallow. Plus the linesman interference didn't help matters

Totally agree.. It was a penalty for sure, but no doubt the whole incident was a direct result of the non-call a few second before on the IDENTICAL hit by Stoll on Gionta.. We definitively got the short end of the stick from the refs this whole playoffs..

Dan O'Rourke is a piece of shiit . The same boarding call that Bernier was nailed for was glossed over and never called when that scumbag Dustin Brown did the same to the Coyotes player in their series.

The officiating in the NHL is an absolute joke.

Just call a 2min minor for boarding if you're not calling the Gionta hit, ITS THE STANLEY CUP FINALS, and the player turned into the boards, just call a minor.

1st, 2nd, 3rd goal off the botched call.
4th goal linesman interference
5th goal empty net
6th goal legit

Very frustrating but being down 3-0 in the series is the reason why we lost the series.

It was a horrendous call. But our pk was garbage and we needed if to be sharp to have any shot at the cup

It was a 5 on 4 major... sucks, yes. Say it killed our momentum, sure... But no reason to let in 3 goals. That's on us.

This is the worst kind of belly-aching. If the situation is reversed, you'd all be crying dirty player, cheap shot, not to mention the conspiracy theories if no 5 minute major was called.

Them's the breaks sometimes. Don't give up three f'n goals. Or score a goal when we have a one minute 5 on 3 pp in game three, and maybe we're up 3-2 in the series going into last night.

Devils lost to the better team. Get over it.

It's easy to say get over it. Was our PK on the 5 minute major horrible...absolutely. However, referees can completely affect the outcome of the game and there is no doubt they did so in Game 6. The missed call on the Stoll hit from behind on Gionta directly led to the Bernier 5 minute boarding major. The call on Bernier was correct and he deserved what he got. However, it wouldn't have happened if the refs did their job and made the correct call 10 seconds before.

And don't get me started on the linesman skating right into Volchenkov's path on the 4th goal. They are supposed to stay along the boards in those situations so as to not interfere with the play, and he did the opposite. These are supposed to be the best refs the NHL has, and they were as terrible as our PK last night.

The Kings took advantage and deserved to win this game and the series. But if you think the refs didn't play a huge part in last night's outcome, then you are fooling yourself.

ya but its not the call its the missed calls around it.. seconds earlier Gionta gets hit from behind, the difference is he didnt even look, where the LA guy peeked then turned... the difference is ones hurt the other ne isnt.. so to make things clear.. Being hurt is the penalty!! .. then the puck goes down into NJ zone and right as NJ touches it in the corner the LA player turns and punches someone in the head. .. Oh but I guess thats allowed.

its not the call that really pissed me off its the plays around it.. should have been evened up for at least the first two minutes of that 5min pp

I dont think anyone here thinks the penalties are what beat us. We're just pissed off at the refs. That's allowed. Look, they passed better, shot better (we only had one goal off a continuous passing pay, Henrique), stopped the play better. Our guys had a hard time even receiving a pass from one another. That's how quick the Kings were. Hell, we even got 2 games out of this series. Cant wait till next year!!

Only an Ed Hochuli type call in that Broncos/Chargers game effects the outcome in a meaningful way. The luck of the calls breaks both ways over the course of a best of seven series. It's an unfortunate situation for Bernier, and it wasn't intentional (those type of hits rarely are), but it was certainly within the range of the ref's reasonable discretion to call the major. Some refs will give you the benefit of the doubt, but you can't count on that. Virtually every high-stick is unintentional and rarely the result of reckless play. But sometimes you draw blood and sometimes you don't. And sometimes the ref misses the call.

If you mean that refs effect the outcome in a butterfly effect kind of way, you're merely stating a truism. That Volchenkov pick, when you control the play like the Kings did, you'll tend to get those kind of breaks. If the Devils aren't in that position, stuff like that doesn't happen.

The better team won last night, and won the series. The refs had nothing to do with it.

If your going to call Bernier for a boarding penalty (which I've already said was the right call to make), then you have to call Stoll for boarding/check from behind on Gionta a few second before. Just because Scuderi got smashed into the glass and Gionta got run into a 1/2 wall doesn't make a difference. The hit on Gionta was a clear penalty directly in front of the ref, and he doesn't make the call. His non-call is what potentially effected the outcome of the game as the Bernier hit wouldn't have occurred if he made that call. That PP decided the game and, therefore, the refs had an affect on the outcome.

It's not the call that was made that is the problem. It's the inconsistency and the non-call a few seconds before that changed the game.

you guys are talking about LA being quicker/faster/stronger.. sure all after the fact.. after the 5 min penalty.. after the Devils are beyond deflated and know its over.. after that point, the game has already changed and yes one team is defeated and the other one is playing on adrenaline knowing they’re the cup champs

Missed calls are part of the game. At other times, the refs missed calls that favored the Kings. Yes, you're right that without the Gionta non-call the Bernier hit doesn't happen. That's a truism. Yet, the fact remains, the Bernier hit happened, and he could have been more careful or held up on what was an unnecessary hit in the first place. A blown off-sides call or missed hand pass three minutes earlier changes things down the road.

Im not saying the refs were the reason we lost last night (cause we didn't play well at all, and need to be able to kill off penalties). But the refs last night did not call the game both ways. They took away any chance of the devils getting any flow in this game. Again you cant let in 3 goals on 1 major and expect to win. But the fact of the matter is the penalty minutes were 47 to 6 in a SCF game. It was a game called 1 way.
