Ironically Dallas is one of the few teams that publicly admitted they were 'out' of the Parise sweepstakes.

Bingo. And that's why Semin isn't getting any 'reasonable' contract. Teams have so much money they're giving Zach $8 and $9 million cap hits with a ton of up-front cash, you think someone isn't going to turn around and throw Semin $6-7 plus on a multi-year deal once they lose out on Zach?

Semin's contract was 6.7 mil this past season. If Semin's top offer is in the 7 million dollar range that is still in the reasonable range for the potential that Semin is capable of reaching.

Problem being nobody = Tedenby, or just bringing back Sykora. And the way Lou's going he'll wind up signing Sykora to a two-year deal :P

Nah, Semin's only plan B if Zach doesn't re-sign. I'm actually very intrigued about a line with Kovy, Zajac and Semin.

yeah, the best part of possibly re-signing Zach is that we'd have lots of cap space for the trade deadline while having a really solid team already and we'd be pretty attractive IMO. Getting iginla for Perry or the cup run would be fvcking insane since we need a good RW.

Parise - Henrique - Iginla (sorry kid for trying to beat you up last year by the way)
Kovy - Zajac - Clarkson
Elias Josefson Zubrus
Carter Gionta Bernier

Semin's reputation around the league is a negative, there is no way he gets $7 million from anyone.
Even his own teammates called him out the past few seasons. The only teams looking at him are non-contenders who need to hit the cap floor: NYI in particular, but I can't see them offering anywhere near $7 million. His value has diminished in the past few years.

The plan is to undermine the role of an independent press while constantly whining that any reportage that deviates from a staunch conservative narrative is biased … while at the same time filling the editorial vacuum that that creates by filling the propaganda juggernaut from under the guise of a news organization. And that organization would be called Fox News.

Socialism is no more impractical than capitalism - either in their purest form are ridiculous, unachievable ideals. A healthy society requires healthy doses of both.

Semin's reputation is way overblown. Dale Hunter was able to get solid play from him. Besides that Kovy had a reputation as someone who didn't play to his capacity night in and night out. In addition, he was also known for having zero defensive skills. Look at him now. Semin isn't like Zherdev, I'm sure he wants to redeem himself somewhere.
Just no fighting for a while:

Like I mentioned in the Salvador thread: Sal, Moose, Marty and Cam's contracts get us to the floor. I fear Lou will just run with that and make zero moves to bring in another talented forward.

Mogilny was hated by his teammates before coming to the Devils, as well.

Your unconditional rejection of violence makes you smugly think of yourselves as noble, as enlightened, but in reality it is nothing less than abject moral capitulation to evil. Unconditional rejection of self-defense, because you think its a supposed surrender to violence, leaves you no resort but begging for mercy or offering appeasement.

If Lou still has an offer on the table for Zach I don't see why he wouldn't at least try to spend for a replacement. Operative word being try cause there ain't much out there and never really was. He will do something, we probably won't like what he winds up doing based on his overpayments already this offseason but he's not going into next season with Clarkson as a first-line RW and Tedenby as a second-line LW.

I agree that I think he will go for someone, I just dont think it will be Semin.

Anyway, Jagr is no longer an option, he just signed with Dallas.

This whole waiting for Zach stuff is really putting us in a bad spot. Chicago, Detroit, Pitt, Philly: They all could lose out on Zach and still be in good shape. If we lose out on Zach and don't go after Semin then we have a big hole to fill. We may have to go after a trade and with what we ave as pieces I don't see a Bobby Ryan or Rick Nash coming our way.

Who did we actually miss out on so far? I don't really want any of these guys who have signed with other teams so far.
