I think Lou expects to eventually have the penalty lifted as part of the new CBA.

Edit: I guess another possibility is that they already have the framework of a trade in place that includes the pick. Lindback, Bernier???

there is absolutely no way that this penalty gets wiped away. none. your edit is the only thing that makes any sense to me that lou is trading it for a player.

I say this because I'm not sure what our goaltending options are...and here's a kid who has had success in this league with his talent, behind a sh!tty team, sh!tty environment with horrid coaching. He could be a reclamation project. After all he did have Peter DeBoer in Kitchener for a few games. HIs value is low because of his prior injuries too. Also, I'd be in favor of this kid with a guy like Marty and him splitting time and mentoring him. It's the only way I would accept Marty back.

i remember people saying the same thing last year about the draft class being weak and at that time saying this years was much deeper....i think the business about this years draft being weak is more in the front end as in no sidney crosby...imo

that being said i am surprised...its potentially a serious risk by lou..lest i remind everyone about our finish only last season and we're running out of 1st rd choices to give up and if it came down to a top 10 vs the 29th would it be a little different

With his contract, I think we could have Mason for a low round pick but I'm not sure he's even worth it. That would be quite a reclamation project.

Mason's contract is horrible and even if he is traded, which I doubt, because he's just that bad, how could you possibly qualify him as an RFA next year at that price?

Speaking of trade, we could just as easily sign Harding to a low deal as a backup. Granted, he sh!t the bed towards the end of the season, but I don't think that's characteristic of him overall. Plus he's younger than Moose.

oh, you think halischuk is too much?! it was more of a joke than anything. i would give up most of the same for lindback/rads rights. i wouldn't be upset if instead of halischuk in that spot, the devils signed zenon kenopka to a similar deal.

i don't care if they think there's a great player there. you simply cannot gamble with this. i wanted them to deal the pick even if they lost in the first round to florida.

while i think the odds are very far against this scenario, imagine parise leaves, the devils do not get any forward to replace him, injury or ineffectiveness limit kovy, elias, zajac and henrique and marty repeats his first half of this season for the entire season. that's a bad team and could lead to a top 10 pick. then they're forced to give up 13/14 with no clue how it will turn out.

Otoh, in that scenario wouldn't the Devs be able to parlay their equally high 2nd rounder up to a very low first and give that to the league? Doesn't that fulfill our obligations as well?

They like a kid that is flying under the radar and think they can get him with the 29th pick

OR

They like a kid that is suspected to be drafter earlier (than 29th) and will try to move up for him and they needed to keep that pick for a possible trade.

Watch us not only keep our pick in the 1st round this year, but as we approach the end of the first round of the draft and after much waiting, trade out of the first round into the second.........
