IF Marty leaves...I dunno, re-sign Hedberg, sign a Clemmensen-type 1B goalie, and get Wedgewood on the fast track to the bigs?

I dont think Marty goes anywhere if Zach walks. I dont think theres a chance in hell the team lets us lose both of those guys. I do think its one or the other however. Marty won't make a move til Zach does IMO.

I've heard people say "It's just business" with these guys leaving. I guess you can call that, but I think you have to look at WHY they are not interested in staying?
Is it the money? Maybe.
Do they want a chance to win? Yes.
Do they feel their best chance of winning is with the Devils? I doubt it.
If they thought their best chance of winning was with Kovalchuk and crew, I think he'd they accept something smaller to stay. Maybe there is no money or perhaps they just don't like the new Devils? What else could it be? If it was purely about money, both would've been gone already as Lou is frugal (at best) with the team's money. Something else is the reason.

I could see Lou having told him he can't get a two-year $10 million deal here, and to see if he can find that on the open market. If he can, good for Marty, if he can't, he's back here on a one-year deal for $4-5 million tops.

Why are people so convinced Marty's leaving? He's probably got two, maybe three legitimate offers with one being Toronto lmao. This isn't a case where he's got to look through a billion offers. If he was going to leave, he could have left already. He's certainly not going to leave before Zach makes up his mind.
We don't even know if anyone's offering 2-10, just that it's 'supposedly' what he's looking for.

Do you think his play merits 5 mil? Or are you giving him a little extra because of who he is? Even at 1 year, I don't think he was (last year) or will be (next year) a 5 mil goalie. And I'm getting sick of people saying you can't give him a second year. He's Marty fvcking Brodeur, he's left millions on the table over the years for the team. If he doesn't deserve a gold watch then we don't deserve that loyalty either.

Would have been nice to know these terms a little earlier, now Gustavsson, Mason and even Clemmensen are already signed. In reality who is left out there thats a sure #1. Looks like someone said Moose may be back though...also not saying that any of those are a #1, but they could at least split with Moose if Marty isn't back
