IMO Zajac is at perennial all-star level - his style of game just won't get him there that much. He is maybe a top 5 defensive forward in the game today.

we're getting ripped off there big time.

Ripped off? Enstrom is a better player than Greene and Little is a 24-year old center who put up 24 goals last season, and has scored 30 before. Only question on Little would be his defensive game, not really sure about that (he went from a plus-11 to a minus-11 last year, for what its worth).

This is actually a really good point. His whole family is in our system right now. Obviously, he's friends with Zach, but just because Zach left doesnt mean Travis will.

We have the money and desire to re-sign Zajac long term. Its up to him if he does. Its premature to be having discussions on trading him now IMO.

Well this all for fun.

But again, the longer we wait, the less the return.

I don't know if this would be more creepy than supportive, but I have Zajac's address in Jersey. Maybe we could send him letters telling him to sign back with jersey before July 1, just maybe he would. But, even if we did not, he would choose wether or not to do so.

Or maybe he'll leave to get away from this stalker-esque fandbase. Posted Image

I feel you are severely underestimating Zajac's worth. He is one of the best players in the league.

Lets take a deep breath and talk in two weeks.

The plan is to undermine the role of an independent press while constantly whining that any reportage that deviates from a staunch conservative narrative is biased … while at the same time filling the editorial vacuum that that creates by filling the propaganda juggernaut from under the guise of a news organization. And that organization would be called Fox News.

Socialism is no more impractical than capitalism - either in their purest form are ridiculous, unachievable ideals. A healthy society requires healthy doses of both.

i hate the idea of trading zajac so i agree that the best course would be and try and lock him up. if he doesn't want that, i would not deal him for propects and picks. the devils just went to the SCF and are adding season ticket holders and growing the fanbase. losing parise was a step back. dumping zajac for picks/prospects and not being that good next year is another big step back.

if we're dealing zajac+greene, i want evander kane back.

I would want that too, but I get the sense he's untouchable.

Guess I'm just a sucker for first round picks and top prospects. Probably why I'm spewing my thoughts on a fan message board and not in the GMs office.

Zajac is going to be a UFA. That's what makes him worth less. You can sign him and give up nothing next summer. When you trade pending UFA's, you don't usually get 'fair' value in return. Trust me, I know how good Travis Zajac is. Why do you think I've been telling anyone who'll listen to me to lock him up yesterday? This is all hypothetical.

Do we have the cap room to re-sign Zajac AND get someone like Semin?

I just don't know how it's possible plus add in Clarkie, Elias, Larsson in a few years, Henrique...

Cap room is not our problem. It is our 'budget'.

I wouldn't be trading him unless he walked in saying he wanted out.

If he doesn't agree to an extension, he's basically saying that.

I understand that but teams still draw ridiculous value for players in the last years of their contract all the time.

We just can't afford to lose another core player cause we won't be attractive at all for free agents and our forwards future will need some signings, our forwards is really not great

What about packaging Zajac for Evander Kane (assuming the rumors are true that he wants out of Winnipeg)?

This needs to happen. E. Kane is a fantastic player. If it takes Zajac and Greene to happen, so be it.

Next year's market is going to have a lot more on it than it will this year.

http://www.capgeek.c...=F&fa_type_id=2

I imagine some of these guys will get locked up, but names like Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Ribeiro, Stephen Weiss. Thats just a few including Travis. Then we have RFAs this year like Kane and Weber who may only take one year deals which changes their UFA status for next.

The chance of next year's free agency being crazy is very good + a new CBA will change things. Deals are likely going to be limited to 6 years and who knows what the cap will do. We're going to have an easier time locking up Zajac if we end up waiting til July than we would have if he went UFA this year. The competition will not be as fierce as there are so many good players (as of now) headed towards free agency. Its really hard to guess anything without the new CBA being in place and again, guys will probably get signed before July.

Its too hard to guess what Zajac will get etc. The market can't even be guessed because of the uncertainty.

Lou should offer him a nice extension. If he turns it down, ship him out...

I like the idea of keeping guys for a Cup run, but if we are not looking like a juggernaut in February or so I would get what I can for him. There is no law against him resigning with us in the offseason.

Some of you guys are talking about Zajac like he's Patrik Elias in his prime. Hell, he's not better than Elias right now.

That knockout was great. It came at a time when Cooke was a danger to every player on the ice too.

Don't expect Perry & Getzlaf to be on the market by then:
