Can you imagine what would happen on these boards if that team was the Devils? Some people here, myself included, would absolutely lose their sh!t.

Doan is a solid veteran but 7.5M for 4 years is ridiculous. Oh, and he is 35 already. I hope Shero is that genius.
I don't know...this looks like something either Sather or Snow would do. Yet, Lou did sign Rolston to that horrid contract. So I wouldn't be that shocked.
If it is us I rather Lou have had offered this contract to Semin.

Guessing flyers, they offered parise a ton, so clearly they are willing to overpay.
IMO no way the Flyers would offer that contract.

I wouldn't put anything past Holmgren, they need vet leadership and he is obsessed with remaking his roster every year. If they were ready to give Zach $100 million plus (and Suter big money too) I don't think $30 for Doan would be that outrageous a leap.
The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

Put down the crack pipes people, it's not the Devils
I could make a case for at least half the teams in the East doing this. Pittsburgh and Philly were ready to throw insane money at Zach, so was Carolina for that matter and they think they're Cup contenders with Staal lmao. Winnipeg and Ottawa are under the floor. Pegula in Buffalo's shown he's willing to spend money and they need vet leadership. The Isles are crazy to begin with.

You really think he would hit himself with a 7.5M 35+ contract?

This guy is less reliable than even Єklund (2.3% accurate), and that is saying something.

Good. I hope they offer Doan a 5 year 30 million dollar deal. That ties up more of their cap and takes them out of the Semen running.
“I think winning against them in the big stage, not just for me, but for the fans of New Jersey, people that are supporting us and always take a second seat to these guys for whatever reason, now they’ve got to be pretty happy going to work and going to school and doing all their things that they do." - Martin Brodeur

If Doan's really got 4-30 on the table I don't see how it benefits him to lay out unless it's a team like the Isles who he'd never go to anyway. It's almost like a silly game of chicken between Doan and Semin at this point to see who signs first.
He wants to stay in Phoenix though. If thats truly what he wants, then he has to wait. Its rumored the 4/30 is from the Habs. Unless tradition is a big deal, thats a franchise in a transition for the most part and I cant imagine Doan wanting to go there.
Semin's issue seem to largely be his salary demands which no one has yet met, at least according to recent stuff in the media. There's no incentive for him to take what he can get now.
