I watched the Michigan - Ohio State game. First, it was by far the best game I had seen Michigan play this year. As usual Merrill was used in all situations and was smooth skating and positionally sound. He seemed a lot more comfortable out there tonight than in the previous viewings I saw of him post injury. I'm always impressed by how he seems to slow the game down and conserve energy by reading the play correctly. He was on for the 1st Ohio State goal that Gedig helped set up but it was a helluva shot and transition by the Buckeyes that caught Michigan off guard.
Gedig returned to the line up after being out for 5 games and it appeared they were a bit conservative with his ice time earlier in the game to help transition him in. He got a decent amount of playing time on the PK and was on the 2nd PP unit. Was on the ice for the 1st Michigan PPG but it wasn't his fault at all. Helped Ohio State get their 1st goal by making the smart, safe play chipping a loose pick from behind his net, up the boards to his winger that led to the goal. Unfortunately, he was on for an empty net goal against at the end.

Not a Devils prospect but check out Denver goalie Juho Olkinuora's incredible save against North Dakota:

McDavid? Yeah pretty sure he's on Erie, Sarnia smoked them 13-3 tonight
Didn't the great bench throwing Robbie Ftorek coach Erie this year and get canned? At least he couldn't lose in the first round if he couldn't make the playoffs

im curious thefiestygoat, who's your fav prospect or the one you're more high on to have an impact for us
I'm no expert but I was thinking yesterday about what prospect has excited me the most this year. While Reid Boucher has had a fantastic season, I'd have to go with right handed defensemen Damon Severson on the Kelowna Rockets. The Devils were fortunate to grab him towards the end of the 2nd round last year, a draft in which he was one of the younger players (just 17 at the time with an August birthday).
He's in his age 18 season this year which also happens to be his 3rd full season in the WHL and has put up this line: 62 GP 8-38-46 +36 66 PIM. While one could say his +/- is inflated due to playing on a great team (2nd in WHL) he has been a huge reason for their success since he plays in all situations and is often used to against the opposition's top players. Plus he's already listed at 6'2 198 and he should be able to bulk up a bit from there which makes me even more excited. He's currently 6th in WHL defensemen scoring and is 2 points back of 3rd.
Based on limited viewings this year I'd say he is a very composed player, especially when he has the puck, and is able to use his vision to make an effective pass out of the zone. He's mobile and reads the opposition well on both ends of the rink. His shot seems good for juniors but I wouldn't put it up there with his great passing. I think he can potentially be a solid 2 way d-man in the NHL but will probably never put up that many goals - which is more than fine with everything else he brings to the table.

interesting. in like... i dont know... 5 years? we should have a really solid young group of dmen. it's exciting. but until then we have to look at volchenkov, tallinder and salvador who are all slower than the continental drift.
It's amazing what a difference that year + 1 makes - I bet Severson would go in at least the high second round if there were a redraft at the end of the season.
