This is a quote Bob McKenzie posted last night from an anonymous GM about what leverage he feels the players have...
"None. We took away all of their leverage by canceling the playoffs in 2005. And, we’ll do it again, if we have to."
I posted it just to show the mind set the players are working with. F*** the fans, the arena workers, the parking attendants, the equipment managers, etc. The owners are just coming off as complete scum here. It's really hard to listen to them tell us about a system that 'doesn't work' but netted them an extra couple of billion dollars since the last lockout.
I know these guys always think the sheep will come flocking back, but they better think long and hard about going down this road again, especially so soon after blowing up the 2004-05 season.
I agree, I think this one is all on the owners...clearly with the offers that were made and the contracts that were signed, they're not hurtin' as much as they'd have us all believe.
But both parties need to understand that a lot of the everyday "nobodies" who are strugging to make ends meet but try to actually cough up the money to buy tickets to some NHL games, and the workers who see their livelihoods directly affected by millionaires and billionaires squabbling, aren't going to care much about who's right and who's wrong. I think a lot of people are just getting flat-out sick of this nonsense, and don't care to know the ins and outs of every last detail involving the CBA...I think most fans are reaching the point of "Just the STFU, BOTH of you, and figure this damned thing out already!"
THE NHL MUST LOVE THE DEVILS - from who else? A RANGER fan!
[Mark Messier]: A big, bald attention whore with a stupid Easter Island-lookin face. - from who else? DaneykoIsGod!
Even when Marty comes back maybe Larry should put Clemmensen to be on the goal during the shootouts.
Can the coach do that ? Switch the goalies 5 seconds to go in overtime? - Most priceless quote ever posted on a message board.
Martin Brodeur: THE MOST ALL-TIME WINS!, 12 straight seasons of 30+ wins, 3 Stanley Cups, 4 Vezina Trophies, and zero respect from too many so-called Devils "fans" who are either too young or too bandwagon to remember the much darker days of Sean Burke, Craig Billington, Bob Sauve, Alain Chevrier, and the talented but overwhelmed Chico Resch, among many others.
It's easy to support a great player when he's playing at his very best. It takes a true fan to support that same player during those rare moments and stretches when he's not. Babe Ruth went 0-4 some games, and sometimes Wayne Gretzky was held pointless. There may be such a thing as greatness, but no such thing as absolute perfection every single night.
