DIG: They will redo the whole schedule when the season gets going.
Which makes sense, otherwise the schedule would be unbalanced and such.
Looking at '95, that lockout ended on January 11 and the season began on January 20. That makes me think that expecting the season to begin in two weeks when a resolution hasn't been reached yet is probably a little too optimistic. But who knows, maybe this is them getting the ball rolling behind the scenes so there won't be such a lag between resolution and puck-drop?

For whatever it's worth, ran into Lou Lamoriello at EWR when coming back from St. Louis yesterday. Told him we were big fans and that we miss hockey. His response was, "We all do!"
Interpret that as you will.
You got more out of him than most Devils beat writers have gotten in years.

The security guard who knows all is back.
A lot of larger dominoes have to fall first.
Did the CAA security guard get a job at the Rock?
i am only mad because i didn't get a chance to beat you both to this joke.

I doubt it, high schools and NJIT use the practice rink. Building a rink is a lot of work that takes a pretty long time, I don't think they would do it for an event that doesn't generate a lot of revenue. My guess is there is some College or High school hockey event planned there, this season is done, Bettmen is an Ahole, and Hockey is quickly becoming the 5th or 6th sport in this country as the owners have really ruined this for me...

You know your sports world is in trouble when you're thanking god for a team that would miss the Europa League if the season ended today and let their best player sign with Man U.

If arena ice crews were told the lockout was reaching its end, it would probably be all over the internet by now. I'm not getting excited yet.

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03

I'm starting to think there were multiple leaks but not that a deal would be made. I think many knew this was the date that the owners would start negotiating.
Forgive me if this has been explained elsewhere, but why is this date significant for the owners?
Or is it just an arbitrary date?
