First, I love that Cashman was able to bring back the 3 veterans before the winter meetings next week. With holes in RF and C, it's nice for him to know where he stands on other areas of the roster.
Secondly, I wish Martin the best in Pittsburgh. All in all he had a solid ride with the Yankees and I'm surprised that the Yankees didn't pony up the extra couple of million to keep him considering they don't have a ML capable catcher (sorry Whiteside, Stewart, and Cervelli). His deal was only for 2 years so while it would've cut into the 2014 plan, I don't think it would've been that great of an obstacle. It's especially frustrating when you consider how much money the Steinbrenner's got from selling a huge stake in YES recently. I understand being fiscally responsible but this just comes across as cheap. I wonder if this affects Kuroda at all. Unfortunately, Romine lost last year to injury and Sanchez is still a few years away. Cashman is going to have to get creative to get a decent enough catcher to start the majority of the games. At least this happened before the meetings.
Lastly, I wonder when and where Swisher will sign...I can't see him dragging his free agency out that much longer past the winter meetings. If I had to guess he'll sign elsewhere towards the end of next week. I won't be shocked if the Yankees make a significant trade this week, just a gut feeling.
