That's true.  The last holdout I remember is Niedermayer back in the late 90's, early 2000's.

Arnott and Niedermayer held out the same year.  And the Devils went to the Cup Finals that year.

Columbus has a lot of work to do to get good.  They have to throw out a lot of bad contracts.  That Jack Johnson deal has to be first on the chopping block though I don't know who is stupid enough to take that on.

I don't think the aves can ask for more than JJ and tallinder honestly. It sounds like he wants out of Colorado and that's why he's asking for that unrealistic contract. I also think other gms know the situation Colorado is in and will low ball them a bit. Similar to the kovy and Nash situations their gm is just going to take the best offer eventually. Maybe it's a little better than JJ and tallinder but I can't see it being much more for an unsigned player who has really only had 1 stand out season

The Rangers paid way, way more for Nash, a player on a ridiculous contract, than JJ and Tallinder.  Kovalchuk is a classic four nickels for a quarter sort of move but Atlanta had to move him.  Colorado can just sit on O'Reilly for a while, there will be teams throwing offers at Colorado left and right.

I'd do Josefson and Tallinder for O'Reilly without a second thought, and I'd consider throwing Merril in the deal if Colorado insisted. This is the type of player you make a move like that for. Players like Ryan O'Reilly are NEVER available.

I agree 100%.

I agree 100%.

Pretty much every team would be able to make that offer though. We'd probably have to give up someone like Larsson to get their attention plus that. Look what the Flyers got for Carter and Richards who were both on worse contracts than what RoR's gonna get and were a few years older. Without Larsson, every team could match JJ and Tallinder and Merrill and Gelinas and whoever else. The Leafs could say oh we'll trade Morgan Rielly and then we have no chance outside of Larsson which I wouldn't do

. Yeah Larsson's a non-starter. I wouldn't trade Larsson or Henrique for anyone. They're the two young untouchables.

Being reported by TG and Chere on twitter that Lou has called a conference call at 8:15! Can't wait to see what huge news (or not huge at all) is going down! :P

I'm split between: Announcing Zubrus is out for the year or announcing a significant trade. Going with a Zubrus update though and it probably meaning some really bad news.

Why wouldn't he just wait until tomorrow if this is an update on Zubrus?  Weird!

Toronto Sun: Ryan O'Reilly denied captaincy by Avalanche

http://www.torontosu...cy-by-avalanche

Contract negotiations between 22-year-old centre and the team he led in points last season have broken off as of Wednesday.

According to the Denver Post, the biggest reason for the impasse is
money. The Avs offered O’Reilly a five-year $17 million deal — the first
of that length since Paul Stastny's 2008 deal — but it wasn't enough.

So Karlsson is gonna be out long term with an Achilles injury. Any forwards interest you?

Milan Michalek but that's not happening. Sens are going to look for something offensively with Spezza and Karlsson out. I don't think we have that.

So since we have even more depth with Poni I can honestly see Lou making a legit offer for O'Reilly. Tallinder - Josefson and maybe another piece.

“I think winning against them in the big stage, not just for me, but for the fans of New Jersey, people that are supporting us and always take a second seat to these guys for whatever reason, now they’ve got to be pretty happy going to work and going to school and doing all their things that they do." - Martin Brodeur

guesstimating ROR would be in the $3.75-5 Mil range... here's are the RFA draft pick compensation figures for the 2012-13 season:

$1,110,249 or below – No Compensation
Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 – 3rd round pick
Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 – 2nd round pick
Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 – 1st round pick, 3rd

Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 – 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd
Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 – Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd
Over $8,410,976 – Four 1st Round Picks

the other piece better be Larsson or every decent prospect we have or they're laughing. Literally any other team can outdo JJ and Tallinder. Why do they want Tallinder anyway? They're awful and will be for awhile esp w/o RoR

I keep forgetting that too but they could simply buy him out this summer

Johnson's signed forever. And he's pretty much all they got for Carter so they'll sit there with the egg on their face and keep him
