If Medvedev wants to buy out Kovy, why can't the Devils (in conjunction with the NHL) levy a price tag on Kovy and get paid outright? Take the revenue off of the sale of Kovy and split it with the NHL, with 50% getting divided amongst the 29 other NHL teams, or the poorest NHL teams? 50% stays with the Devils.

The Devils would have to charge somewhere in the vicinity of $55 to $75 million (paid up front and not in installments) for Kovy, and split 50% of that with the NHL. The benefit to NJ: Liquidity and erasure of Kovy's cap hit. Benefit to NHL: increased liquidity for struggling franchises.

Benefit to KHL: Get their marquee player and not have to pay contract to NJ and transfer fee. They would just pay the transfer fee and a new contract to Kovy once in the KHL.

The "transfer fee" would be considered HRR, and if it wasn't it would soon be negotiated as such because the other owners, and the PA, would flip their lids.

Medvedev is a jerkoff and Kovy trying to make everyone happy is responsible for this, thus he should have to be the guy who answers the door.
