Barring a major surprise, veteran defenseman Bryce Salvador will be named the 10th captain in Devils history later this week.

There are other worthy candidates, but all indications are that the 36-year-old Salvador will have the “C” sewn on his jersey.

i mean... if thats true...good for him and im sure he'd be a good captain but...? Cant wait to be able to get a jersey with a C on it but Langenbrunner, Parise made it pretty hard and now Salvador?... oh well....

Chere seems pretty sure of himself. Good choice, even though he's a little old; we're an old team and I think it's better to let Kovalchuk do what he does best without the added pressure of the "C"...

I dont know Chere could be wrong we will see... And i'm happy for whoever will be team captain. They have a lot of leader there.

Id like kovalchuk but... Id like to see henrique getting the C eventually but it couldnt happen unless they'd strip the c off kovy eventually

The good thing about if Salvador were to get the captaincy is that there's nothing wrong with Kovalchuk getting it in a few years when Sal retires. It wouldn't be mutually exclusive, not to mention I'm excited to see what Kovalchuk will have accomplished and matured into in 3-4 years time..

I wonder if this little KHL saga cost Kovalchuk a C? Then again Sal seemed to be the pretty definitive choice coming off losin Parise. Got a decent sized deal and wore the A vs. Philly with Kovalchuk out. Good for Sal I guess.

Interesting. I was kind of expecting it to be Kovy but I guess sometimes the best captains are stay-at-home defensemen. And I know Sal is a very well-liked, veteran guy on a mostly veteran team. Just hope he stays healthy.

Bsed on a bunch of quotes that i read through the years...I dont think that Elias dont like Kovy but i always get that feeling that he has a little "something" towards him.

On a diferent note... Eberle got the A in edmonton and hall and schultz will alternate theirs... Isnt that weird that schultz gets the A eventho he never even played a single game with the oilers? Actually... Never played a single NHL game...?

You're thinking of the wrong Schultz. They gave the A to veteran d-man Nick Schultz, not rookie Justin Schultz.

Not snark, maybe its a Czech vs Russia situation. There's legit heat when teams (club or national teams) from those country play. They're natural rivals.

Good for him, but it's just another short-term captaincy..

I dunno, I'd prefer it be Kovalchuk since he'll be here for the next decade (hopefully) and he's clearly our best player.

I dont like to think of salvador as our captain in 4 years...

Some people here wanted him out before last season... So 4 years from now? Who knows... Could be a touchy situation

Sal deserves it. He reportedly has a good lockerroom presence and he fits the mold of a Devils player.

Salvador is not a good enough player to wear the 'C'. The captain is more than rah rah pat your teammates on the back kind of guy. He has to prove himself by consistently being good on the ice. Sal shouldn't have got the ridiculous contract he got (years) and he should not get a 'C'. It should definitely go to someone who can carry this team and there is only one guy who can do that.

I feel the coaching staff knows more than any of us who would be the right choice for captain. I'm cool with whoever they choose and I don't feel that the captain necessarily has to be a star player.
