I've never been a huge fan of the "just shoot it" philosophy. I've always believed that movement without the puck is the key.

Will be interesting to see how it works out.

Well anything has to be better than last year's PP. But the just shoot it philosophy can lead to a lot of clears which is why I'd be nervous about it.

Didn't San Jose have a great power play last year with Shaw? My only reservation is I'm not sure we have the personnel to run a 'shoot-first' system unless it's Kovalchuk firing bombs from the point. Then again they didn't do all that great last year with a different philosophy.

16 teams, I think, would have preferred the Devils PP last season.

The Devils PP system last season was good, the Devils just lacked a slot player who understood it enough to make it really deadly.

the "bombs away" approach works well for me on the PP in NHL 13

I like the bombs away philosphy, drives me crazy when the devs make 8 passes and never shoot,
move the puck quick and SHOOT

OMG I could not be happier.. Been saying we need this style for years.. Look at the Flyers effective PP.. 2 or 3 good passes, a shot, then crash for rebounds during the craziness

No more passing up great chances for the hope of a better one

I think the decision to go this route on the PP is personnel driven, i.e. not many slick passers. I don't see Elias sticking to the plan at all.

Seems like just getting shots at net will seem to be the overall team offense philosophy too. I guess it's making the best out of what we have barring a nice deal for a top 6 forward

I remember Detroit had a pretty good powerplay and the combination of shots and big bodies in front made it effective. Holmstrom was a beast for them in front of the net. Maybe we can do that with clarkson and zubrus?

I'd rather see Clarkson do that than take faceoffs on the PP

The Devils should look at the PP the Flyers used when Carter and Richards were there. They rotated off the right side goal line, very difficult to defend. This should be where Kovy is used. I can only see to an increase in shorties if the personnel stay in the same positions as before, i.e. picked off cross passes and blocked shots, etc.

thats exactly what Vancouver is doing too, on RDS they asked the coach what was their secret on the PP, he said "Well de just do 2-3 passes then boom we take shots and go for rebound.

It's true its creating panik and confusion for the other team, we use to just wait for the perfect pass but it's so easy to read for the other team, if they keep their formation they'll just be in good position to block all the shots, if you can get possession after a rebound or something then the other team is mostly all fvcked and all over the place.

That PP goals was insane!

Upping the shots is a good idea if you can get pressure down low. Generate a lot of rebounds and get the defenders out of position.

They will just start throwing fits when shots get blocked and rebounds get cleared out of the zone.
