Is that 7 PP goals in our last 3 road games? Gross.

Edit: 8 in the last 4 actually

That was a fair result for the Capitals, can't get too hung up on this loss for the Devils. Bad communication on the 1st and 3rd goals did them in. Things just got silly at the end, it happens now and then during a season. Move on to the next game.

Nice to see Loktionov add an assist for more confidence and him get an increased role. Tough night for Volchenkov, on the ice for 4 goals against, 2 of them at even strength.

No cause they have been bad for a fvcking long time. they won the first 2 games which were decent, played bad against washington but somehow won cause they got in penalty trouble, played like sh!t against MTL... played alright but sh!t the bed against boston at the end of the game, played decent against a bad islanders team, played like sh!t against pittsburgh, then had a good stretch of 4 games against rangers, lighting and pens then played like sh!t ever since.

we squeezed a bunch of wins while playing bad, and in the long run "a win is a win" mentality is gonna catch up if they are not playing well.

Yup so bad they have been at or near the top of the conference all season.

im surprised there's not more people pointing out our obviously lack or creativity.

We have players who could play a lot better but they are ask to dump and fight on the boards all game long. We have pretty much no plays in the middle of the offensive zone unless there's an OBVIOUS opportunity. We have our 3 guys pinned to the board in the corners or behind the net... IF we win that battle we're gonna try to get the puck to the point and our point man will take a shot to the net... 33% of the time he'll miss the net, 33% its gonna be blocked, 32% the goalie will make a save and maybe 1% well get a good deflection or a goal. they'll rarely simply try to take shots from the side low for bouncers or a rebound off a dman or something. they have to get the puck to our point man almost every time and thats where pucks goes to die. Also really often our guys doesnt even have the time to go in front of the net by the time the point man take his shot so we have no screen or anything

So our whole fvcking system consist of trying to create that play who has a very low % of success. and 85% of our breakouts are made to try to achieve THAT play. No wonder we don't have lots of scoring chances. Anyone not seeing this must be blind.

When we're scoring off our forecheck it's really opportunist and you can't put a whole season on that. We need more offensive weapons than that.

for the love of god someone agree with me here please.

You're overreacting. If the Devils get any luck the last few games, they're probably 3-1 instead of 1-3

 I love this oft-used, completely irrelevant/untrue cliche.

How about Wolski having an open goal stopped by Jedi mind-force - ain't that luck enough?

lol ah well if you want to go the whole year depending on luck always going our way... knock yourself out dude. If you can't admit the Devils have been playing pretty bad this year other than that good stretch well i dont know what to tell you. Im glad where we are in the standings but having the flyers and rangers and so many teams struggling is certainly helping

And why the hell is Vochenkov NOT playing Ovie almost exclusively on that PK? He's the only dangerous player out there for cryin out loud

Why is Volcheknov even playing, period?  Fayne got benched for less than the crap Volch has put out there since April.  Hell, Larsson got benched for no real reason to start the year.  Heaven forbid we sit a $4 million guy as opposed to a $3 million one though (Tallinder).

It seems every team NJ plays is just flat out faster.   I'd love to see some speed added to this team.     They have a few fast skaters but but skating fast and playing fast are two different things, and it's just so obvious on the power play.

Could (should?) have come out of DC with nothing, so take the 2 and focus on the Jets tomorrow.

Yeap, this game could of been even worse with the easy missed opportunities by the Caps.  The DEVS use discipline and game-plan to compete on the lack of talent/speed.

Anyone see the $5.75 million/yr Zajac?  he has 5 points in 18 games. Last time I saw him standout, was that terrible line change vs. MTL with 4 minutes left in the game. Habs scored.

They have not been "playing badly." they have been playing like a better than average team which is what they are. Their standings in the conference may be a bit higher than they should be when you consider their overall play but they do a good job generally at shot suppression and don't normally have their goalies kill them.

In their losses, we're seeing pretty bad goalie play.

Just get into the playoffs and see where you go. I think there is one more trade coming (d out, f in). This team is not fundamentally flawed so just stick with it.

i mean just look at other teams play. i dont know how much you guys are watching other games from different teams, but so often im telling myself... "Great they scored that way but the Devils would have never made that play they would have send it along the boards around the net instead".

just ONE example, the goal that Hartnell must have scored like 40 times at least... just standing around the hashmarks inside the circle and getting a pass from the boards from giroux and BOOM one timer or a good shot. for sure that play in NJ Giroux would have send the puck behind the net and Hartnell would have been there waiting to be pinned on the board or to get free and send the puck to the blue line.

anyone denying that the devils are doing the same damn play 90% of the time is wearing thick blinders or he's simply in denial.

No they've been playing exactly average since the Pittsburgh home-and-home.  One good game followed by one horrendous one.  Really they were luckier to get the three points they did over this last week, considering how much they no-showed the last two periods plus on Monday and how hideous the PP was the other day, two-man advantage goal or no two-man advantage goal.

They really need to start finding more scoring soon (having Zajac score again would help, especially with Clarkson cooling off a little) and fix this joke of a PK to where it's at least average.  In this short season, you can go from first to ninth in no time.

C'mon Lou, do something don't wait until we fall in the standings. Kovy is not the answer there are no answers in the minors. Package a deal and make a trade. Soon real soon!

Nothing against Kovy but you know your in trouble when your best player is forced to play sickening minutes he can not carry the team and it is unfair to put him in this situation.

C'mon Lou ?

I bet DeBoer has no idea what Volchenkov and Tallinder make.

Well more to the point it's Volcheknov's term left on his deal as opposed to Tallinder's term (three and a half years is far less forgiving than one and a half).

It would be lunacy keeping eight guys through the deadline, it's already been lunacy keeping them this long.  Most of the d-men are switching roles and partners on a weekly basis, they look more discombobulated now than they did at the start of the season when that should have been the adjustment period.

I also don't think the D for F trade is coming.  The Devils are happy carrying 8 guys they trust.

Too bad they barely have eight FORWARDS they trust.  And half of them ain't contributing all that much offensively.

There's no guarantees at all that the Devils will be healthy at the deadline.  They're lucky to be healthy now.  And the ice time is much more spread out this year than it was at this time (games-wise) last year when the Devils were using 7 forwards.

Maybe they'll try to pick up a depth forward at the deadline but Carter and Zubrus are injured and Josefson, who's still a big part of this team going forward, is in the minors (but likely not for long).
