I bet he didn't take Vancouver's offer because he knows Colorado would match that one.
I'm surprised but I still think at the end of the day Colorado matches. Maybe there's enough bad blood for them not to, but this contract won't dissuade them from doing so.

People saying they should take a pick that *might* be in the top 10: if that player is as good as O'Reilly they would have hit the jackpot. So keep the sure thing. There's "bad blood" with negotiations all the time. How many times did Niedermayer hold out for example? Unless you're getting Jones/Drouin/MacKinnon, you keep ROR and deal w/ the bad blood that could be over once he gets his $

I just don't think the flames w/ ROR are bad enough to get one of those 3. They might be w/o him but I dunno I'd just keep the sure thing

The Avs already matched it, that didn't take long 
The fact it was only a two year deal and they had time to trade him before next deadline probably helped big-time.

I'm not a fan... but if you're going to match, that's how you do it -not the waiting game of will they/wont they.
But still, if you were going to match any offer... why not just sign him for the cash he wanted and avoid the hard feelings.
He didn't even lose out on money... signing bonus took care of him.

I think the "hard feelings" stuff is a littler overblown, he plays with his teammates and coaches who have nothing to do with his salary.I'm not a fan... but if you're going to match, that's how you do it -not the waiting game of will they/wont they.

But let's say the Avs would have not match the offer. Coming back from an injury and on a oneway deal O'reilly had to clear waivers... so he could have been picked up so the Flames would have lost him and lost their picks too. Feaster is an idiot !

I bet most GMs weren't aware of this. Vancouver gave an offer sheet (supposedly) too and Gillis is one of the best GMs in the league. Chalk it up to post CBA confusion. Someone made the point that the Avalanche screwed up by not making this clear in negotiation also (presumably) and using it as leverage to get ROR to sign with them.Feaster is an idiot !

Yeah, that contract was huge for Hjalmarsson when he got it. The Sharks really wanted Niemi I guess and got lucky with it.
