But why did they tune him out?  If he was ineffective then explain the 107-point season he was able to muster out of them?

I think it was more of the players with their ego's trying to take advantage and Lou took their side.

The same reason they had 99 points the next year with an even worse team, because Marty had one of his peak years and they were able to win a lot of tight low-scoring games.  The funny thing was the Devils had actually won four of five games before the firing, though creepy Pierre said Lou wasn't happy with the way the team looked in one of the games Buffalo sliced through them.

Plus they had other issues at the time.  It wasn't immediately obvious that MacLean was the entire problem considering Parise was hurt, Kovy was disgruntled, Langenbrunner had quit on the team and they had cap roster headaches early in the season.  The only time he could have been realistically fired before that was after the November loss against the Islanders, but they actually won three other games that week.

If you're referring to '06 that was before Julien.  '09 Sutter coached the team.

my bad. i thought that was Julien. So many coaches in and out the door within such an amount of time. I can't keep up. :doh1:

Guys, you have to play in at least 41 regular season games to actually win the cup? Right? I just want to be sure that Carcillo isn't getting the ring if Blackhawks win. Haha.

Two-year extension for Bylsma. @DarrenDreger: Credit to Ray Shero for having Bylsma his staffs backs. Bylsma goes from hot seat to signing 2 yr ext. Quite a business.

Re: Lou firing Julien

I don't know the reason, what ever it was, it was a stupid action to fire him. But when I am in doubt about a reason for an action I don't like I blame Marty it works every time for me.

While the Bruins looked great the last two rounds, the Rangers and Penguins were no-shows. Chicago is battle-tested.

Very very surprised they are sitting Stalberg for freaking Bollig. Why take out your fastest skater against a team like the Bruins. There is a reason why Toronto gave them fits, because they were fast.

Not for nothing but Julien has been fired about 5 times by the Boston press and would have been fired if the Bruins had lost in 2011 to the Habs or blew-it against Toronto this season.

The Bruins had a hot start but played below mediocre the final 2 months to end the regular season and Claude was heavily criticized for what seemed to be major steps back by players such as Lucic, Seguin, and Horton while the once stud prospect Rask was seen as "eh".  Meanwhile Julian had a maddening loyalty to mediocre players such as Peverly and Chris Kelley (who had become known as the "High Glass Line" for their lack of finishing glorious chances).

So what happened?  Jagr stabilized the 2nd and 3rd lines while Julian was forced to play his kids on defense such as Krug who can move the puck.

Doc has definitely lost his touch since he joined NBC. Sad. :(

Amazing pace to this game though.

Disagree. Doc is still the best there is, and it's not close. I don't think he's lost his touch at all.

I am a huge Doc fan but he was awful for the first ten minutes of this game. Many awkward miss calls and he was talking about Shaws mouth and what not lmao he is rambling way too much lately. Him and Chico were magic together. Doc Pierre and Edzo just seem so awkward together, not bashing Doc, still love him and he is still one of the best but he was much better before he went to NBC full time. Just my opinion though. :)

They are playing Devils Hurricanes Game 2 from 2006 on NHL network. Good to watch if you turn it off with about 15 seconds to go in the game.

And it looks like its going to be tough to put one behind Rask. What a run he is on.

It's actually hilarious seeing the OLN logo and the Thank You Fans.  It really is remarkable how the last thirty seconds played out.  Only Devils-Canes :P

"The Devils have high standards, that's the difference. We have a standard to live up to every year, and a couple of teams in our area don't have the standards we do." - Pat Burns

The New Jersey Devils win Stanley Cups everywhere:
-NHL record for most road wins in the playoffs - 10-1 in '95 and 10-2 in '00
-NHL record for most home wins in the playoffs - 12-1 in '03
